I would get another opinion. My friend has a daughter with asthma and she gets really dark circles under her eyes.
I am wanting to know if any other moms out there expierenced this. My daughter has had these dark circles under her eyes for a few months now...it looks like she has black eyes! I thought it was from her crying herself too sleep...but we changed out she went to bed...I in turn started rocking her to sleep instead.
We have ask our doctor about it and she is concerned but doesnt know what would cause it. Its been a few months now and havent thought much about it until some sales man said something about it.

Your doctors responce is concerning to me-anyway, my daughter is an allergy sufferer and she is also asthmatic-whenever her oxygen levels are low she get really dark circles under her eyes. Have they checked her breathing? Obviously she is breathing but is she having any type of bronchial problems? Something to look into.
Hi Trish,
I would suspect, like the other mommy that wrote, it could be from allergies either to a food or several foods or to an environmental allergen, like pollen, mold, pet dander, etc. If it's a food allergy, taking a medication for allergies isn't going to help her. I would suggest that you try an elmination diet for her, which means eliminating the usual suspected foods that can cause allergies, then reintroducing them one at a time and watching for a reaction. You could also have an allergy test performed by your doctor. Having a food allergy go undiagnosed can lead to problems for her later. If you're interested in trying the elimination diet, I can recommend a book or two and a website.
It is also possible that she isn't getting enough rest or enough "quality" rest - waking up a lot at night, something like that.
I hope this helps, N.
Definitely a very clear sign of allergies. Honestly, I'd be concerned to have a dr. that wouldn't immediately recongize that as a sign since it is so prevelant. My daughter was born with dark circles which concerned me right away and her pedi said he predicted she would have allergy issues. She was fine for her first four years in FL (still had the dark circles though) but boom, within two weeks of moving to Texas, her system went crazy and she has suffered from winter allergies for the last five years. Now, one of my twins seems to be following in sis's footsteps. Again, I'd bet that's what your daughter's black eyes are all about.
Like others said, they're commonly called 'allergic shiners'--if you google it you can see plenty of pictures. I think it's strange your pediatrician wouldn't recognize this. Definitely get a second opinion and consider changing pediatricians if it is allergies.
It could very well be allergies. My girls have it a little bit when I forget to give them their allergy meds. My friend's children all had dark circles under their eyes, until one day they happened to be at the pediatrician for something else, and she diagnosed it. They really didn't exhibit any other symptoms---no sneezing, wheezing, watery eyes or anything. They are on Allegra now, and look SO much better. And at 13 months old, it's prime time for your daughter to start showing some allergy symptoms.
I'd take her in for a check up, and ask your ped about allergies. Good luck!
Doe she have allergies? The circles are a common symptom of seasonal allergies. My daughter has them, and not just when she's showing symptoms. Do they get worse at certain times of the day? When she first wakes up?
I asked our pedi and he said that my daughter's look worse than they are because she is very fair complected.
Sorry I'm not more help. I would follow up with the dr to make sure it isn't a sign of something lacking in her diet, and watch to see if it gets worse at different times of day or when allergies are bad. Good luck!
I would see an ENT specialist and get her e-rayed for large adenoids.
