My 15 Month Old Is Covered in Ant Bites!

Ok so I was gone for 2 hours last night and my husband took my baby to his parents house and let him play in the yard. He still doesn't walk, and my baby crawled through an ant pile and now his left arm is COVERED in ant bites. I've never seen anything like it! He didn't have an allergic reaction, but today all the bites are swollen and look like pimples. Is there anything I can do to soothe them or help them go down?

What can I do next?

ONLY because with my personal experience with delayed allergic reactions to ant bites, I would call your pediatrician. Benedryl and OTC hydrocortisone cream will help, but there might be a prescription that can prevent a more serious reaction, plus relieve any discomfort since it's so widespread. Even if your dr. recommends OTC meds, you'll at least get the proper dosage since he's under 2. Good luck!

You could make a paste of baking soda and water or dab tea tree oil on them. Don't open them up or scratch the tops off or they could get infected and take him to doc immediatly if there is any sign of allergic reaction. Hope he is better soon.

This happened to me personally and I made a paste with meat tenderizer and that helped.

our ped says to put hydrocortizone on and wrap with plastic wrap to help push it into the skin
with that many bites on a kiddo who isnt old enough to walk, I would call poison control just to make sure.
a cool bath will help too!

Hi S.,

An old trick that I learned years ago is to use hair spray. It stops the itch almost instantly and always seems to stop any swelling from spreading or getting any worse. Still to this day, hairspray is the first thing I use for mine or my kids ant bites. It always works! Hope your baby feels better soon. : )
