Well he had some vomiting a total of 5 times in 24 hours and that stopped. Then he had diarrhea a couple times a day for a few days but, not very much pee. He doesn't act like he feels bad at all. He's in a great mood. He wants to nurse a lot and I've been giving him water as much as he wants and vitamin water along with nursing. He hasn't had a fever at all. I'm reluctant on bringing him to the doctor but, I'm considering it more and more. Any advice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well yesterday he started peeing a lot more and hasn't had any more diarrhea. I just kept offering water, nursing, and vitamin water. He's also been eating more. Just waiting for the next normal poop! I had been keeping an eye out for signs of dehydration like lethargy, sunken eyes etc. Nothing like that happened. He's doing better so, as long as he keeps progressing, I'm not too worried. Thanks!!!

I would call and talk to a the doctor's nurse and get advise from her/him to see if they believe you should bring in your son. Most of the water from his body probably released itself in the vomit and diarrhea, therefore, he did not need to urinate...he sounds a bit like he might be dehydrated if he is wanting to nurse more that usual. Try giving him the Pedialite (spelling), in a bottle, they have them in ice pops now too...those should always be on hand at this age. It is a great sign for him not to have a fever, THOSE fevers are the worst! Good Luck!

Any time you have concerns about dehydration make sure that you begin giving your child Pedialyte immediately. I always keep a few bottles on-hand for unforeseen illnesses. It is the absolute best way that you can start re-hydrating your child while you await doctor's advice.

My pediatrician told me as long as he has 3 pees a day he is fine.

I know for my two-year-old, the nurse told me he should have a wet diaper every 6 to 8 hours when he got a virus a month ago. For reassurance, I would call the nurse and tell her/him everything you just said in your post:)

When my grandson did this, we gave him Gatorade Freeze Pops. He didn't like the Gatorade drink...but he really enjoyed these. We kept offering these to him for a few days...he did get some down.

I would at least call his doctor's office if you haven't already. Dehydration can sneak up very quickly on the little ones. I think the other poster is right about going every 6-8 hours. If that isn't happening, he needs medical attention. Good luck.
