Can someone help me in how to take care of my son right now, he doesn't want to eat because these bumps are all over his body and mouth, so my poor baby is hurting, the dr already gave him antibiotics and an ointment, but there must be something else that ou moms out there have done to help them get through this, oh and i've also been giving him Motrin for fever/pain.

What can I do next?

Honey, don't fret too much. Lots of fluids, and clean, clean, clean. Wash sheets, blankets, and everything else and vaccumn throwing away the bag that you cleaned the whole house with. Go to this link and read all about the information. http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/infections/skin/impetigo...
We just experienced this with my granddaughter. Lots of work, bathing, cleaniness and now it is all gone.

If eczema is an issue, my doctor recommended not using ANY Bounce dryer sheets or fabric softener for one. Also, only Eucerin and another type lotion on their body, and no perfumed items. Worth a try i guess. Worked for my husband. Good luck!

Are you letting him have popscicles. Usually they like these
and it will feel good on his throat. And maybe he will eat
oatmeal, i am not sure. And applesauce, jello and other
kinds of soft foods. My best to you.

I am SO sorry your baby boy is not feeling well! When a two year old is sick the whole house just stops!!! And what a NOT FUN combination to have going on! Poor little guy! My neighbor's little 18 month old JUST went through this too. She was very worried about him not eating also. What you need to be most concerned about is getting him to drink! Fluids will be much more important! My daughter just was in the hospital for 7 long days with ovarian cysts (she is 14) and she barely wanted to eat. She didn't eat really at all for like the first four to five days. The doctors said that drinking is much more important when you are sick than eating. BUT, as a mama we want our babies to eat! So, here are a few suggestions for getting fluids and something solid down:

**Warm stuff might feel good: chicken broth, apple juice/cider, hot chocolate.

**Cold stuff: milkshakes, slushies (homemade with 100% juice or my kiddos like the ones from sonic when they are sick), popsicles, push up pops, fudge bars, etc. Freeze Gatorade and let it thaw a little. Or pedialyte.

Just remember to push fluids!!! Even ice chips if that is all you can get him to do. If you can keep him hydrated he will feel better faster and thus begin eating again. You could also give him a frozen wash cloth that is thawed a little for the spots that are most uncomfortable or see if cool baths/showers feel good. I sure hope he feels better fast! It will pass - though the few days can seem like soooooo long! Best of luck. Just keep him hydrated and occupied and hopefully it won't be too bad! Oh and wash your hands a lot and what he comes in contact with so you don't get it too!
Best of healthy wishes your way!!

poor baby!!! oh my goodness i'm about to cry!!! my husbands gramma used to make him a "milkshake" when he was sick, he did it for me, maybe you could help that baby feel better with one. it's just milk in a blender (i always stick it in the freezer for a few) a touch of vanilla and sugar. you can add 1/2 banana, if you'd like. i'm not sure what you are looking for, but i'll say a prayer for this poor boy, and yourself. blessings

Hi R.,
This won't help with eating, but it might help with nutrition. I have a very picky 3 1/2 yr. old Daughter. Whenever she gets strep which has been about 3 times and she has had Bronchitis too many times to count, stupid preschools, any way I always give her V-8 Fusion and I give her the adult stuff not the Juicy Juice Version, and here is why it has a whole adult serving of fruits and a whole adult serving of vegetables in just one 8 oz. serving. I asked her pediatrician and he said that it was a great idea. I also buy those gummy vitamins and she thinks she is getting a treat, and last week when she had bronchitis, I found suckers with vitamin c and zinc for colds, buy the cough drops, these helped sooth her throat from coughing so much and she loved them kept asking for more, they can have up to 8 a day according to the bag. If your son isn't too congested you could always try the nutritional supplement drinks like Pediasure, they have a generic version at Wal-Mart, that is quite a bit cheaper. My Daughter always liked the Strawberry and Vanilla and hated the Chocolate even though she loves chocolate everything. Hope this helps and good luck with the sick baby, I know it kills me to have to see my daughter sick, and then to have to keep sending her back to Pre-School when I know that is where she is getting sick, but several friends I have that are Elementary Teachers say that when ever they start school they will have a very sick year, and my OB/GYN said that it took 2 years with her Son, so if they don't go to Pre-School they will be sick when they go to real school, and my Daughter needs the social interaction and she has problems with her speech and the school seems to be helping, so I am trying to look at the positive side. Hang in there, just try and give him lots of fluids that will help with the fever and the sore throat. The items I mentioned are pricey, but worth it to me when my child is sick and won't eat at all.
Thanks, M..

For Impetigo, I used Neosporin around the mouth where the impetigo was. It happened once, and when my daughter finished eating I made sure her chin was spotlessly clean.

My daughter used to get the tonsalitis at the drop of a hat, she just seemed suseptable to it. We did get her tonsils and adnoids out at age 8 because of reoccurring infections.

Juice seemed to hurt her throat, maybe because it was too acidic? She liked warm chicken soup, weak warm tea. I don't know why she preferred the warm drinks over the cold ones. You might see which works best for you.

When she was older I would get long q-tip swabs and swab her tonsils with them after dipping them in hydrogen peroxide. I sure don't know why it works, but it took the soreness out of the tonsils. Your little guy is too young to gargle, so that might work for him.

Hydrogen peroxide also works well for painful canker sores, and other mouth wounds. Just don't swallow it, putting it on the q-tip keeps that from happening.

I hope he gets feeling better!

Something that could help with any sores and also provide some calcium, etc is yogurt. When my son had sore throat and ear infections, he wouldn't really eat too much, but we could always get him to eat yogurt by putting it into the medicine syringes (not the ones that come with Tylenol but the ones they give you from the pharmacy). Because he had such a good association with the medicine, he was always willing to take it. And the yogurt coated his throat and really helped it heal faster.
Good luck!

Hi R.. My youngest son who is 18 yrs old now had that nasty Impetigo when he was 3yrs old. He also was on antibiotics and ointment but I also had to put him in the tub with Dial soap 3 times a day to break the cycle of the infection. He had 21 bathes in 7 days. I just used the antibacterial liquid Dial soap and used like a bubbles bath. Believe me after 7 days at 3 times a day, he was finally a happy camper. He got the impetigo from being around goose droppings by the lake at the waters edge where we used to live. Geese are a disease waiting to happen. Good Luck with your little guy. I hope he gets better.

Depending on where the Impetigo is (on the face or around the mouth) what about trying Abreva or Neosporin. For the tonsalitis maybe you could try oragel for the pain.

My son had hand, foot, and mouth. This also results in painful blisters in the mouth. My dr. was concerned with dehydration and suggested popsicles, milkshakes, mainly any liquid I could get him to drink. She also said to stay away from acidic liquids (juice) and foods for they aggravate the sores. I hope he is feeling better soon!

My 13 month old son has been experiencing a severe rash all over his entire body for about 2 months now. We learned that he has impetigo. This needs to be treated with antibiotics-Bactrim or Cephalix and more importantly, Bactroban, or the generic munipirocin. He's been in torment scratching terribly night and day. Neither one of us sleeps very well as I am constantly applying Aquafor generic to his skin all thru the night as well as thru the day. The dr. also recommended bleach baths, 1/4 cup of bleach for 1/4 of the tub for a lil guy like him. I've heard this works well. Although initially he could not handle water on his skin-it was so incredibly inflamed and broken. So I let the bactroban heal up his skin first and we are now trying the bleach baths, for head to toe. Topical colloidal silver also helped with the itching-not to be taken internally. We are still in this battle, not having a dr. to consistently monitor his situation...going to a dermatology clinic with a grab brag of drs is NOT recommended. But I am finding that this regimine is starting to pay off and my son is starting to have better days, being a happy, laughing baby again. The Bactroban helped more than anything thus far but doesn't seem to knock it outta the park, so to speak. I'm assuming because his case was soo severe by the time of diagnosis-we were told over and over it was eczema-it's going to be a process and take some more time to get it completely cleared up. I hope all this helps someone.

clean clean clean your hands. ask for "magic mouthwash"--it's benadryl mixed with mylanta and sometimes viscous lidocaine, numbs their mouth and allows them to eat. but if he doesn't want to eat it's not that big of a deal as long as he is drinking well. good luck!
