My DD had hers out at 3 b/c of sleep apnea too. Having a child who stops breathing several times a night is NOT an option in my book. She was speech delay due to her lack of deep sleep. Unless you have been there, holding your child while she stops breathing in your arms, don't judge. My daughter did this when my husband was out of town. It was the scariest thing I have ever been through. I did not sleep for weeks more than 3 hrs at a time and with her in my bed.
The most difficult time of recovery is the first few hours when they wake up from surgery, not really aware but scared. The next challenge was keeping her fed. I fed her baby food to keep her tummy full.
Best part? No more sleep apnea. She sleeps all night long and is caught up in speech. DD is 5 now and sings all day. :)
