My 3 year little girl broke her midshaft left Clavicle (collar Bone). She was running with her new princess sippy cup and fell. I took her into the er and they put a arm strap and said to follow up with her doctor monday morning, Have anyone else ever gone threw this? And if so what have you done to make your little one more comfortable. She hurts to lay down so she slept on the lazy boy recliner and I was on the floor to keep and eye on her. My little girl is in so much pain. She won't walk. I have been giving her children's tylendol for the pain.
It just hurts me to see her in pain. If you have any advice I will really appericate it.
Thank you

I'm so sorry! This won't help w/ her pain right now, but know that the clavicle is the most commonly broken bone in the body, and fortunately it typically heals very well (and relatively quickly!) Once the 2 fracture ends start mending together again, the pain will improve. The first 3-5 days are the worst. I agree w/ trying ibuprofen for pain control - taking it for a few days or even a week shouldn't cause any harm. Best of luck.

Poor baby! And poor you, it's so hard to see them in pain. One suggestion for you...if you have a Henry's or Mother's or Whole Foods nearby, look for a brand of homeopathic remedies by Boiron. They come in little blue tubes, and they are tiny, white things that dissolve under the tongue. Completely safe for little ones, no side effects or warnings, totally natural, I use them for our whole family all the time. There is one for Bone Trauma that is excellent! My mother broke a rib a while back and she took them for a while, and she healed so much faster than the doctors expected her to. Both my kids have also taken them to help with fractured toes. They really work to speed up the healing! Hope she feels better soon!

Hi there!

My son broke his clavicle when he was 3 as well. The Doc wanted to put his arm in a sling, but - as you know - a sling isn't going to do too much to immobilize a 3 year old. I talked to an orthopedist and they suggested this little device that pulls the shoulders back and therefore DOES actually immobilize the movement that causes pain at the break. It's available most anywhere.

It's called a clavicle splint or clavicle support brace. I just did a search on Amazon . .you can do the same to get a better idea what you're looking for.

Most towns have little shoppes where you can purchase walkers, crutches, ankle braces . .that kind of stuff, that's where I found the item for my son.

Anyhow, good luck!! And don't worry, kids are so resiliant, she'll be better in no time!

Baby ibuprofen (Motrin) reduces swelling and may make her more comfortable than the tylenol. Its even safe to use both at the same time for more severe pain. An adult would be given prescription painkillers if needed! If you have any questions about dosing or combining the 2 medications call your pediatrician or a pharmacist.

Your poor baby!
I have broken both my clavicle bones, so I do know what she is going through. Keep the brace that the hospital gave you on and make sure it is snug. This will help a little to support it. I actually found some relief in laying flat to sleep. Keep giving her the Children's Tylenol for pain. When I broke my clavicle, it was summer and I found some relief in my backyard swimming pool, (when no one was in it to bump my arm). Seemed like being under the water took pressure off the site of the break. I wonder if the bath tub might offer her the same kind of relief. Just make sure to watch her closely in the tub, as I am sure you would. It is always hard to watch our little ones suffer in pain. On the bright side, however, their little bones heal extremely quickly, and in a few weeks she should be as good as new. I'll say a prayer for you both. :-)

Can you give her ibuprofin?? It's much stronger and might help with the pain better.
