Hi everyone~I just started noticing that my 6 month old daughter has cradle cap now. My son had it very minimally when he was an infant, and I don't remember how to get rid of it. My daughter has a head FULL of hair, so I'm not quite sure how to work around that either. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get rid of this! I know it's not bad for her, but it doesn't look very nice, so the quicker I get rid of it, the better.
Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

My daughter had horrible cradle cap too!!! It was so bad I rushed her to the doctor. He told me not to worry that it was simple to get rid of....all I had to do was take her baby shampoo and comb it through her hair, them massage it into her scalp and let it dry....then put her to bed and wash it out in the morning. I did this for two days and it was completely gone and never came back!!!

Olive oil worked great and I didn't need to buy anything. It was gone in a day. Just put a hat on so the greasiness doesn't show.

Hi!
Both my son and my daughter had this and they both had full heads of hair. I didn't know about this when my son had it, but a friend whose sister was a hairdresser told me to use Paul Mitchell's baby shampoo. I didn't even know that they made baby shampoo! They sell it at Meijers more inexpensively than salons. I used baby oil on my son and then tried to comb it out, which didn't work too well and he looked greasy. In the long run the cradle cap went away on its own. With the Paul Mitchell it didn't take long before I noticed it fading away. All you have to do is shampoo adn since it's made for babies you don't have to worry about harsh chemicals or burning her eyes. Good luck and I hope you don't have to have a greasy baby!

Like you mentioned, and as our dermatologist put it, it is completely a parent problem and not a problem for the child. It's only an aesthetic concern. With wanting to get rid of it, Gentle Naturals makes a cradle cap treatment. Also, rubbing in baby oil on the scalp before shampooing and then combing it out helps too. You could also use a dandruff shampoo like Head & shoulders or Selsun Blue, but you have to be real careful then that it doesn't get into the eyes of your baby.

All four of my kids have had it! Olive oil and vegetable oil work great so does Skin So Soft oil from Avon. Rub some on, if baby likes the hairdryer blow some warm air on for a bit the heat really loosens it up. A fine toothed comb like the ones you get in a baby set work great because the yuck will stick a little in their hair, the finer the teeth are the easier it is to pull out of the hair. The BEST trick I just learned with my last baby is to wash out the oil with dish soap, takes it right out!! Of course you want to be extra careful not to get any in their eyes but works great! My grandma told me about it after I was complaining about peanut butter out of my 4yro's hair.

My daughter had it at 6 months with tons of hair as well. I used Gentle Naturals cradle cap treatment and a fine tooth comb to loosen and pull out all of the skin and it cleared it right up.

Hello there, I've always been told: while you're giving her a bath (i'm not sure after you wash her hair or before - I think after) rub baby oil on your baby's head and then comb the baby's hair backwards. That comb they give out at the hospital is great. Good Luck!

Hi J.,
My son also had this issue about 2 months ago. I put olive oil on his head, let it sit for about 10 minutes, and then you take a baby tooth brush (soft bristle) and work in gentle circles to remove the dead skin. It comes up very easily. Then shampoo and rinse. I waited a day and repeated this treatment and all of it was gone.

My son had this briefly. We rubbed olive oil into his scalp for a few days and washed and brushed his hair each night. It was gone in about 2 days.

ps - we actually tried baby oil first. I don't know what's in baby oil, but it didn't work at ALL for us. The olive oil was much better.

Hi J.,
My daughters had the same issue and I switched between jojoba oil and Burt's Bees Apricot oil. Yes, it makes their hair greasy, but it works and you can always throw a little knit hat on. :~) Also, I used a soft bristle brush during bath time and massaged in a circular motion and it literally started to flake off.

Good luck,
K. :~)
