Is this normal? She rocks back and forth in her high chair so hard that she moves the chair and I'm afraid she's shaking herself too hard! I do think this is normal and I should just ignore it or even just chuckle at it...but I'm really not too sure! Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This type of rocking is not a sign of autism (that is a much different behavior) but is a baby having fun and discovering how she can manipulate her world. It is totally typical and a sign that she is a smart kid who enjoys vestibular stimulation and is creating her own by learning how to use her muscles. Just keep an eye on her so she does not tip over, and look for more ways that she can get active, like a boucy seat, johnny jumper, or an excersaucer. She may enjoy these too.

I definitely think it's normal. My son does this all the time. He just likes to MOVE! He does it in his high chair (usually when we take too long to get him another bite of food, lol) and he'll do it in his carseat...
I just encourage my little one when he does it - I start rocking in my chair too and he gets a super goofy grin on his face. It's like he's baby dancing!

Totally normal. Nearly all babies do it. ((In fact... try it yourself on the couch if your don't have back problems. DON'T do it slow and controlled, but as fast as you can. We've been taught NOT to rock back and forth over years and years of "sit still" & "behave"... but if you can do it without cracking a smile or even laughing you're a rare human. Most can't go back and forth as fast as possible without smiling/ laughing. I have no idea why.)) It's also a comforting motion when done slowly. Most adults will only rock themselves in extreme distress. But next time you feel sad/ stressed out... TRY it. It's naturally calming/soothing. One reason why adults build rocking chairs.

It CAN, however, be dangerous. Mostly risk from knocking her chair over. So keep an eye on the chair to make sure she's not going to tumble it over.

A normal person can't give themselves shaken baby syndrome, so there's no worry about "rattling her brains" when she's doing it herself (similar to the way that a person can't choke themselves to death... the body has natural defenses against it that controls motion... people to choke themselves have to use a prop like a rope/tie/sheet/whatever, their arms fly off -reflex- at a certain point if they try to choke themselves manually).

It's totally normal, and falls under the same category as constantly shutting - or opening - doors: she does it because she's delighted that she can. Chances are, she won't hurt herself doing this, but when she gets older, you'll need to remind her that sitting still is part of table manners.

haha my son used to bounce the chair across the room to get food from the counter. So funny, just watch they dont tip over and push back anything he shouldn't reach. He couldnt walk yet so this was a blast for him.

Better put a helmet on her! If she goes over it won't be pretty... How you might reason with a 9.5mo.old is something I've never figured out!

Lol, this is SO normal! Babies won't shake themselves to death. My nephew used to bang his head against the floor so hard that my sister freaked out, but it was just a phase and he was ok. Enjoy your crazy kid! :)
