heavens, no!
ADHD children are a dime a dozen any more, and that poor little dog was probably provoked.

I have a ADHD child and a Jack Russell Terrier. About three weeks ago my jack Russel bit my adhd child on the check. I got a note from the local pound saying to get ahold of them asap. I went down to the pound and asked what it was about. They told me that her school called them and reported it and that I either had to get rid of the dog I would loose my children. I picked get rid of the dog, did I do the right thing?

It would depend on the circumstances when the bite occurred whether or not I'd get rid of the dog. Twelve years ago our dog snapped at my 6 mos old granddaughter superficially scratching her cheek. My granddaughter had crawled over to where the dog was next to a bone. My granddaughter picked up the bone. Twelve years and another child later our dog has not snapped at or tried to bite a child.
It was my fault for having left the bone on the floor. I was in the room and snatched my granddaughter off the floor.
I think that when the pound presents you with getting rid of the dog or having your children taken away you can ask for an investigation. I would've definitely asked more questions before getting rid of the dog if the dog bit in response to provocation. I doubt that taking away your children is that simple. They would have to do an investigation before doing it. And one of the things they'd want to know is how/why it happened, has it happened before and what steps have you taken to keep it from happening again. It's possible/likely that your ADHD child provoked the dog but you don't say so.
They cannot just take away your children. They would have to go to court and prove that your children are in danger. That is not so easy to do. They would not just knock on your door and take them. They'd have to file a petition in court asking to do so. In the meantime you might have had to board the dog elsewhere until the court ruled.
I've been retired for 20 years and worked for 20 years as a police officer. I have seen a couple of dog bites and at no time did anyone say to take away the child. I've not read of that happening since then, either.
Yeah, because the dog pound has the authority to take your children away.
Are you the same troll from Friday night? Kind of obsessed with ADHD aren't you?

What the fudge does this PM mean? "Im respond to what u said to me about a troll. My child DOES and I repeat DOES have ADHD. I just have to say that u must be the TROLL!! Im not obsessed with it. Im not going to stoop to your level!!"
As others have said animal control does not have the power to take your children away. Animal control does not take your dog away they euthanize the animal *if* then find it dangerous.
I really could care less if you are a troll or not but don't PM me!
Yes, yes you did.
I am surprised you even have to ask!
I am a huge dog lover but you better believe that if my beloved dog bit any of my children it would be finding itself in it's new 'child free home' like ASAP!!
the fact that your child is ADHD is irrelevant. Your dog bit you child and is now considered aggressive is my guess.
Now the threat of "your kid would get taken away" was just that....a threat. But it could have ended up with Child Protective Services getting involved and deciding if you were actually raising them in an unsafe environment and no one wants CPS invading their home.
Animal Control is bound to report it if you didn't react. Just like the school was bound to report it....
its a crazy world nowadays.....not such a free country anymore if you know what I mean
My reaction is huh. What did your child do to the dog? Note from pound? School reported? I am thinking no so.
Doesn't sound like STANDARD procedure.
Did you find a new home for the dog or have it put down?
My child did not provock the dog, she was sitting next to him leaned down and then he bit her. This happened a month ago and they r just now telling me to get rid of the dog. Im not a ADHD troll, Flaming turnip. Im not going to stoop to your level.
Thank u Marda P (from portland) for the advice.

Diane B. from Westboro, she didnt need any medical attention. The school got involved, because a teacher asked her what happened and she told her teacher that her Jack Russell bit her, then the pound told us that it was the school that called, and either the dog goes or PS was going to take my kids.
i'm not sure what exactly you're asking...are you asking if it was right to choose your child over a dog???
This makes no sense. You've either left out some details, or you really got railroaded. There's a lot missing here - like what sort of medical attention your child required and received (if any), exactly how the school got involved, and more.
