try with baby supositories (glycerine)
My almost 5 month old recently stopped pooping every other day. He is on day 5.
From:S. BDate:Fri. Apr. 17, 2009
The pediatrician's office suggested 4oz. of undiluted juice per day and I have tried that to no avail. He went 5 days last week with no poop and we gave him 1/2 of the baby lax and he went within 15 minutes (3x) he is now on day 5 again and no poop. Has anyone had luck with anything else? My pedi's office wants me to take him for an xray.
Thank you,
S.

I'd take him in right away... My kids would go days without when I put them on formula, never had that problem breastfeeding. I was on WIC at the time and they would only let me get the formula with Iron, I know that was the cause of their constipation. I would also use baby suppositories, I'd give apple juice but it didn't always work.
I hope he's not in too much pain...
God Bless!
You could try using a rectal thermometer to stimulate the anal muscles. I had to use this method with my son when he was about four months and it only took him about ten minutes and he had a huge bowel movement. If the problem persists, though, I would take him to the doc just to get a professional opinion.
Gerber Pear Juice mix half and half with water, up to 4 oz of juice a day. Worked wonders for my little guy.
Good Luck
My 5 mo. old is going through the same thing. Has yours started rice cereal yet? I think thats what started our problem. I gave him 1oz prune juice with 1oz water - he didn't like in but we had a bm the next day.
This happened with my daughter too. We found out we weren't feeding her enough due to a little growth spurt. When we started feeding her a bit more and introduced some pureed foods, she was back on schedule. I tried the prunes but they left little blisters on her bottom. Never again for her. Good luck.
Hello S.,
you might need to change his formula. around 5 months I had to change my daughter to soy formula because the milk was constipating her. milk still constipate her (she just turned 7). extra baby pears should help. but look into changing the formula. Good luck! ~C.~
