I can't speak to the rolling over because my kids all did that right on schedule, but the teething is another issue. All four of my kids started teething around 4 months, but didn't get a single tooth until 9 months.
Hi,
My baby is almost 7 months (next week) and he does not roll over nor has had any teeth come out yet.
He has been teething forever and he wakes up at night about 4 times... he teethes daily but I don't see any teeth comming out and that is very frustrating because I don't like to see him cry and fuzz so often. i am a first time mom, and I am so frustrated beacsue even though I take him to the Dr. and give him oragel and some times tylenol.... Nothing can take away my frustration on issues that i am going through with my baby. Please, help... Will he be this way untill his first tooth come out?
About rolling over, I am concern about his arms and chest not being strong enough, is that normal at this age?
He does not show any interest on rolling over. He occasionally rolls half way to the sides but he does it very rarelly, he is just not interested o doing that. Also, hes does not extend his arms to support his upper body when he is on his tummy like other babies at his age can do, he can only lift himself up enought just to hold his head up to look around with his upper arms but not all the way up with the rest of his arm supported by his hands. I am a little worried because this is very important milestone for him to start crawling. He on the other hand, is very strong on his legs, he jumps in his jumpeero all the time, he wants to stand up anytime he can, like when I hold him on my lap, also he tries to push himself forward when on his tummy with his legs and he seems to be very strong on doing that but the fact that his arms and chest are not strong enough to go along with the legs... he gets frustrated and cries and he wants to go on his back because he gets sofocated. He holds his head up very well, he can also sit on his own without being supported and play with his toys.
I am a little concern because I have heard that the infant's arms and chest muscles are ussualy first developed and very strong by this age, even stronger than his legs so they can get started on exercicing for crawling but my baby is all the way around.
Please, any advice from anybody? has anybody's baby gone through the same or any tips on how to teach my baby and help him develop his arms and chest muscles to go stronger.
Thank you all. Those who reply to my request and made me feel better and that my baby has his own pase. Well, let me tell you all that he is 9 months old and that he does roll over now! and not only that, he is crawling and standing up! All these has happened for the past month or so. And even though his teeth haven't come out yet (entirely) I can see four of them (up and down) starting to pop out from the gums! He he he, it is amazing to see all these milestones come all at once! I knew they wil come but I was worried since I am a first time mom and I did not know what to expect! But, I have learned to be patient and positive.
Thanks for all your support!
Susana
I can't speak to the rolling over because my kids all did that right on schedule, but the teething is another issue. All four of my kids started teething around 4 months, but didn't get a single tooth until 9 months.
My first son never rolled over until he was well over a year old, he just didn't care to is all. He wanted to be face up and enjoying the atmosphere and company around him (he is a real people person). My second son rolled at only a few months (he is the more curious type). Every baby is different. I'm sure your baby is growing and developing at his own pace, and what is meant for him. I woulnd't stress out about it at all. Before you know it, his teeth will be all in, and he will be rolling around all over the place, laughing and loving life! Enjoy it all!!!
First, I would try and relax. Every baby develops at different rates. My oldest didn't start rolling over and crawling until about 10mo. She started showing signs of teething at 3mo but didn't get her first tooth until 7mo.
My son never showed signs of teething and had his first tooth at 7mo. At the same time he started rolling over and crawling. He was walking at 10mo. So you see each child is different.
For the teething I would suggest Hyland's teething tablets. You can find them at Longs, CVS or health food stores. They are all natural and you can't overdose your child with them. You can also give him a cold washcloth to chew on, they are less toxic than plastic teething rings.
Just relax and enjoy your little boy. Everything will happen when the time is right for him.
I'm sure you've heard it and read it a million times, but "each baby develops at his/her own pace." That said, if you are truly concerned, have your baby evaluated. I'm certain your pediatrician would have said something by now if it was. Regardless, you can help him encourage him by doing some more tummy-time excercises. Start by proping a rolled towel or boppy pillow, if you have one, underneath him and then move on to having him fully on his tummy.
As for his tooth, my daughter started to exhibit signs of teething around 3.5 months, but they didn't actually erupt until 9 (talk about fun). But take heart, the teething symptoms come and go, and when he's uncomfortable, just try to alleviate the pain with cool/cold items (my daughter loved to have ice water in her sippy), teething rings and such.
Good luck.
Hi Susana,
I have a question, what does your childs dr. say about it? I am not sure about the teething thing cause my daughter hasn't started that yet. In regard to the rolling over issue, my cousin is having the same issue with her son. He is 5 months old and has no interest in rolling over but loves to stand and all that. Her pediatrician told her to put him on his stomach an hour a day in 10 min increments to get him use to it. When they cry and get frustrated is when they kick more and get more motivated to crawl. Maybe you can test it out, let him cry for a few minutes then roll him back over. I did that with my daughter, she rolls over all the time now. I wouldn't worry too much about it, he will come around eventually. All babies are different and develop at their own pace. I hope this helps. Hang in there.
Hi,
My Mom said that I didn't get my teeth until about 10-11mths...it seems weird to me but all in all, my teeth are just fine now - also you won't have to worry about cavities as soon ;) - I'm not sure about the other questions but definitely get some input from other doctors/specialists.
Susana,
You can have your child evaluated, at no cost, by the Regional Center in your area. I don't know where you live, however I am going to give you the phone number of the Westside Regional Center ###-###-####. You can explain your situation to them & they can refer you to the center that would service your home location.
If your child qualifies, you may receive Occupational and/or Physical Therapy at no cost.
Take Care
