My child has had the same five teeth since she was 14 months old and she's not cutting any new teeth, I wonder what's taking so long?

Have you taken her to the dentist yet? She has teeth, she should be going every 6 months. The dentist can do an Xray to take a look at what's under the gums.

My oldest boy was 14 months old before he got his first tooth, they all came in at the same time and he had less problems then my other three kids did when teething. I wouldn't worry about it, they'll all come in eventually.

W., Dentists will tell you that teeth usually come in in "cycles", a bunch will pop out then it can be months before new ones come up - no worries!

Oh my love - I wouldn't worry - late teefus run in my family and I think it started with me... =) My Mother used to say that I was the only kid on the block that could go in the kitchen and fix my own PB&J, but couldn't eat it, cause I didn't have any teeth. =) I have two girls, 13 and 3. Both of my girls were late teethers, not even getting a first tooth until after their first birthdays. It took a while, but then it was like one morning they woke up and they were all there. =) I wouldn't stress, but if you don't see any progress by say 2ish, maybe take them to a "PediaDentist" just for reasurance. I have a feeling they will tell you not to worry, they will come.

W.,
some children are just slower- but at her age I would consult a good childrens dentist and have ex rays made to see if there is an issue.
good luck and blessings

I'm not sure why it takes so long sometimes but my daughter is 17 months now and only had 4 teeth up until about a month ago. Now they seem like they are coming in all at once. And she's not happy about that.... :-) I've never felt like it was abnormal but I know a couple months ago I was wondering the same thing you are and then POP! There they were! Just give it some time. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Smiles!

I don't know either, why some baby's get their teeth faster than others. My daughter didn't have a single tooth until she was a year old...and then they seemed to pop in one right after another. Also, hers didn't come in in "normal" order. She is 2.5 and still working on her last molars.

Her cousin didn't get her first tooth until she was almost two! Two doctors and a dentist have both confirmed it was unusual but not abnormal.

There is an old wive's tale that the longer they take to come in, the stronger they will be. It may not have any basis in fact, but I myself also was quite delayed in getting my teeth...and I've never had a cavity.

Totally normal and I have also heard that the older they are when the teeth come in the better quality the teeth are.
