Oh I had this same problem. My hubby has a sat. has donut day and my daughter was like why don't you have a day. I was like the donuts are from both of us and she says daddy brings them home. Daddy does a lot of the cooking because the days he is off I get home late. My daughter thought I was incapable of doing anything so we have a mani and pedi day. When I do my nails and toes I do hers too. If I get my nails done I take her as well. We also make homemade pizza on Fridays and I make the dough and let them put the meat and cheese on. I have also been baking homemade cookies with her so now she thinks I am pretty cool and not boring.. We played hang man for the first time tonight since she is sick with the flu.

When we were growing up my brother and I would alternate one night a week with mom or dad. We would have mini dates! The two of us would go to dinner or a movie or just wander around the mall. We had fun going to book stores and looking in the travel section. We would create amazing vacations that we would take if money was no option. (helps build imagination!) We would also have one night a week that was our turn to cook dinner. If it was my turn I had to plan the entire meal, go to the store with one of my parents to buy the food (they taught us how to find deals and pick fruits/veggies/meat) and then prepare the whole meal. They would help us less as we got older, but always watched us to keep us safe. If I cooked then my brother cleaned up. It was a neat tradition and I am going to start it with my daughter soon so that she will know how to cook.

Me and my daughter have "girl's days". Its when we leave the boys at home and take either a girlfriend or just she and I (mostly she and I because I need that time with her) and we walk around the mall, see a movie, get our nails done, have ice cream just because (not all at the same time).

Boring is the standard thing kids tell you because you don't know what's going on with them (or they think you don't).

If she's between the ages of 13 and 17, give up now. It is a proven scientific fact that girls between those ages are brain damaged and you can't win either way. (said tongue in cheek)

Good luck. And HAVE FUN!!!

My daughter and I scrapbook together. It is so great. And the best part (she is a teenager), is that the journalling she does is from "her" perspective! Her grandchildren are going to LOVE reading this! For example, her first "job" or first "car," - photos with HER own journalling. It is awesome.
