Wow what a party for a one year old. Keep in mind she may be over-
whelmed by it all. The simpler the better. You can buy fake hay at
Michaels craft stores. The fake stuff does not have the mold in. Each
"bale" is like $4.00. Don't think you would need too many.

Hi, can I just ask you not to give real live goldfish in tanks, if that's what you were thinking. Live creatures need care, feeding etc and kids aren't able to take that kind of responsibility, and not all parents will want to. Those poor fish will end up down the toilet. Goldfish crackers would be perfect instead.

I read a fun Dorothy-toss game where you make orange beanbags, that look like goldfish, e.g. using orange socks, and throw them into a goldfish bowl. The kid who gets the most into the bowl wins.

Have fun!

Can't help with characters, but I wanted to suggest the CD Elmo Says Boo. It's got great kid friendly halloween songs. Sounds like a cute party!

Don't get buttercream frosting if you can help it! I made this mistake with my daughter on her first birthday and oh my... like literally cleaning butter off of everything!

Am I correct that you want to give goldfish as favors? I would do a little research on that and consider if families actually WANT a pet. It's a great idea, but not everyone likes the idea of having a fish, as they do require some care...

We had a face painter once, and depending on the age of the kids that could be fun. It's also easy to do yourself. I went to a craft store (like Michaels) and got the Klutz brand, which comes with a brush, sponge attached to a book describing step by step how to paint. Someone who makes balloon animals would be fun too. I guess it depends on how old the kids are... obviously your one year will be along for the ride.

For the menu, I'd keep it pretty simple, but make it something the kids will eat... like pizza, a veggie plate, fruit kabobs, juice boxes and water. There's so much excitement during parties that a lot gets left and it's always easiest to do fingerfoods!

Have fun!

Wow that sound like quite an elaborate party for a One year old. I am sure you just want to make her day really memorable and special, but at this age, kids tend to get a little over-stimulated and you may find yourself wishing all that energy could have been put into just having a more relaxed event and making the "guest of honor" as happy as can be.
My son is turning one soon too and we are keeping it simple...home-made Italian beef, meatballs, bruschetta, and some dips and a relish tray. We are having it at home. We are only inviting family (immediate family).
And then I am making a simple cake.
We went big in the past for my DD and she was very overwhelmed with just all of the people and noise, and excitment.
Do what you think you should and have fun.

Oh my gosh do you are someone you know have a Cricut? there is a whole cartridge just for an Elmo Birthday Party. Reg price for the cartridge is $89.99
But you can most likely find it for about $35 or less.
http://www.cricut.com/shop/#0/23/479/4/Cricut/Cricut%20El...

It can cut out invites, decorations, treat box's and bags. Place cards, cupcake and cake toppers. etc.

Oh make sure your DD get plenty of sleep and naps so she won't be cranky. And set aside a room for her to sleep in case she gets super tired in the middle of the party.

I put out a little table with a bunch of craft items so the kids can also entertain themselves instead of always having to have a game planned.

If you have more toddlers coming have toddler friendly foods available as well. And changing station for those still needing diapers and pull ups changed.
