That sounds like pink eye (conjunctivitis). A sty is no biggie. But pink eye has a very high gross out factor if allowed to get too serious. Is that what the drops are for...Pink eye? If not or if you cannot remember - Call the doctor back right now and confirm that that is what the drops are treating for. BTW - Surgery and pink eye really do not go together so I really think something has gotten lost in translation here.
Yes, swollen shut with crusty stuff and gooey stuff and seeping stuff comes with pink eye. And since it is an infection, I guess a fever is not unexpected though not necessarily a hallmark of pink eye. As long has her fever remains under 102 and can be managed with Tylenol or Ibuprofen, the fever is under control. And typically, antibiotics (that should be what is in the drops) can take 1-2 days to have any impact on symptoms and 3-10 days to completely cure the infection.
Be very vigilant with applying the warm wash clothes to get that eye lid open to the air and to drops. But I might opt for paper towels as they are disposable and pink eye is extremely contagious. Washing and re-using a pink eye wash clothe gives me the skeevies.
