the last 2 days my daughter screams in pain while we are in the car...its not constant its random spurts like something it biting her or something, we have pulled the car seat out and checked for any bugs, spiders, sharp things and theres nothing there, she has always loved the car so i dont know why she is in pain now. can anyone help me?
my daughter is not quiet 13 months and iv checked everything that i could think of that might be hurting her,straps, the way her nappy is on, she burps herself and pretty much has done since birth shes always loved the car she would squeel real high pitched and make us laugh now this screaming is horrible we have stopped the car and she still screams until i get her out and see if there is anything hurting her and she clings on to me real tight and doesnt want me to put her back in the car seat, when i do shes fine for a minute then she squeezes my finger real tight and screams again.
Becky, i cant put her in a rear facing car seat as its against the law here and also her straps arent tight i have checked that and also straps have 2 be above or level with the shoulders its also illegal 2 have them below, this isnt i dont want to sit cry i can tell the difference its deff a pain cry, she has always loves the car so i dont know why this has only just started...
Try bringing her to a chiropractor...... Maybe she is a little off and when you hit a bump? or something it gives her pain???
How old is she?
If you can't find any outside source, is it possible she suffers from motion sickness? My poor baby got so car sick and she would start screaming at the top of her lungs just before she spewed.
Maybe she gets a gas pain or something. My daughter was fine as a tiny infant, but when she got older, her tummy didn't handle the car well at all.
It's not funny, but even when she was older, we joked that she needed dramamine just to go two blocks to school.
She is 24 now and still gets car sick if she's not in the front seat on a trip of any distance.
I hope you figure out what's bothereing the poor little thing.

Its NOT ILLEGAL TO REAR FACE! Rear facing recommendations used to be until 1yr and 20lbs, however the AAP, NHTSA and Safekids, even the manufacturers of car seats, recommend children remain rear facing until at least 2yrs old and at least 30lbs. CONVERTIBLE car seats rear face until 35-45lbs (depending on model) and kids can easily rear face to age 2-4. My 3.5yr old is 37" tall and 30lbs and rear facing comfortably ,and she has AFO's/leg braces on her legs! PLEASE educate yourself on extended rear facing.
Sounds about right for her age. She doesn't want to be restrained. Make sure she's in a rear facing convertible car seat and that the harness comes from at or below her shoulders, she's not wearing puffy jacket or buntings (not only can she overheat, you cannot put thick puffy clothing on a child in a car seat), and that the harness is snug as a hug and the chest clip is level with her armpits. As long as she's well fed, clean and dry she is JUST FINE! Kids this age HATE to be restrained and will scream like fools to get out.
Its not pain, she just wants to be out and about moving. Thats not an option in the car so she's fine, she will get over it. :)
Its likely not pain just she is angry with being restrained. I had the same issue around 6 months and I would pull over every mile to check her and when would get to her she was fine but then when I would drive again it sounded like she was being attacked. I had to give her something that smelled like me to calm her so it started as a t-shirt and now as long as she has toys she is usually fine.
Have you checked to make sure her straps aren't too tight? Is it possible that they're pinching her when you go over a bump? You should be able to slide a finger underneath the strap. If not, it's too tight.
How old is your daughter? That must be tough to hear her cry like that :(
I can't imagine what it could be but maybe provide a distraction in the car like a toy, book or maybe get books on CD?

Sorry to hear of the struggles your child is having in the car. Child safety seat laws can often be confusing but as best as I can tell from the text on the New Jersey state web site, the only legal requirement is that children under the age of 8 years and under 80 lbs. are required to use a child safety seat or booster seat http://www.state.nj.us/lps/hts/seatbelts.html . Children up to age 8 or 80 pounds must ride in a safety or booster seat in the rear seat of the vehicle. If there is no rear seat, the child must sit in the front seat secured by a child safety seat or booster seat.

My daughter is almost five months and has screamed in the car since she was born. We did all the checks and nothing. We also played a soothing song on repeat and it would work, but only after 30-60 minutes of playing. I agree with Jessica it is probably because she doesn't like being restrained. A couple weeks ago, I gave her a bottle with handles with a little bit of milk, something she likes anyway and she had a field day - three separate car rides without a peep. Not sure if this is helpful if your daughter is older, but I'd say find something you know she really likes and adapt to the car.
Sounds like a behavioral issue. She could be doing it to get attention from you. By pulling the car over and checking her, she is receiving attention for her negative behavior.
My daughter used to act like that when she would lay on the doctor's table and in the car seat. I thought it had something to do with her back, but the Doc said it was a control issue.
Try playing music she likes and sing with her. Look in the mirror at her more and smile. I got my daughter a DVD player for in the car to keep her occupied on longer trips to avoid sudden outburst (and so I could have a little peace).
Have your husband spray the car seat with non toxic cleaner. Take it to the car wash maybe something is there and you don't see it. They could probably suck it out with the holes. I read some of the other post. For those with children who get car sick on long trips my doctor told me to give my daughter Benadryl it worked wonders. I learned this way late because this doctor was not her first doctor. I use it now and she is 8 yrs old. It runs in her fathers family.
