My Daughter's Red Nose

Olive oil would be the best thing - avoid anything with mineral oil or petroleum (ie: vaseline, etc.) as it actually damages the skin more and is toxic.

AT CVS they have a great saline gel made by I believe the co is ARI it also has aloe in it. I use it on myself and my kids it works great keeps the nose from peeling and keeps it moist so you dont have the cracking and you can put it on as often as you need it.

I totally agree with everyone who says Aquaphor, I've used it on my son many times. I used to fight red noses constantly (my son is 2, and his nose would run lots with every tooth coming in) anyways, once I swithed to really good tissues, we didn't have any problems. We use Puffs Plus with aloe and lotion. Yes, they are more expensive, but well worth it for a happier nose!

Every time that I get a cold the skin around my nose gets horribly chapped. I use rosebud salve to fix the problem. It doesn't sting at all.

I'd use either Vaseline or Penaten.

i found some wipes for my grandson when he was sick. they are called Boogie wipes. the moist towel is a lot easier on their nose. i would put neosporin on it for now until it heals. is suppose you could use just the regula wet wipes instead of tissue

Oh man, when I was pregnant I had the worst sinus problems and ran into this issue alot! I typically used vaseline because it was cheap and unscented. Neosporin and other triple antibiotic ointments work well, too. BUT, one day, when I forgot my vaseline, I used some Aquafor and it worked awesome! Healed the dry skin instantly...but it's a heck of a lot more expensive than vaseline! Good luck!

I use Aquafor (sp?)on my three kids for EVERYTHING skin-related. I think it is just a water-based ointment, very mild, but seems to have "magical" healing power. My kids think so, anyway. I use it for sore noses, diaper rash, cuts, scrapes and whatever it is always looks much better by morning. No stinging, either.

Aquaphor it's a little expensive but you only need a small amount and it works wonders.

HI K., I know you got a lot of responses already, but original chap stick works for everything! Including cuts and scrapes, etc. I keep one in my purse for the kids if something happens while we are out and about too. Hope your daughter is feeling better soon!

It smothers the skin, clogs the pores, so it cannot breathe. Its a barrier, like wrapping your body in plastic wrap. Oxygen cant get in for it to heal.
Heck its derived from GASOLINE. no thanks..
BTW, Vasoline & Aquafor ARE mineral oil/petroleum)

I see you already got quite a few responses....and I didn't go thru all of them, but what I use on my five year old is the A & D ointment, esp. at night so that it stays on longer. He's never complained of it burning.

We use Vitamin E in liquid form, or if you have the capsules, poke a hole with a pin and squeeze out the liquid. It has great healing properties for speeding up healing and it doesn't sting. Also, Aquaphor works great on any part of the body - available in a tub at any store.

The best thing I've found is just plain vaseline! Just put it on a few times a day and at bedtime.

Vaseline works great! It is soothing also. I suffer from allergies and really bad sinus infection- red nose and raw lip and raw nostrils is a common occurrence with me. So I know vaseline works from experience.

Lots of responses have said Vaseline. I agree. I would put it on especially thick overnight, even after she's fallen asleep. It will be much better in the morning.

K.- Just put some plain petroleum jelly. It doesn't have any perfumes or dyes to irritate. Helps soothe the skin. If you're wiping her nose alot, keep applying it. I hope she feels better soon.

I sell Mary Kay and I know from personal experiance this product works. Find a good moisture rich lip balm (carmax will burn so not that one)use a warm wet washcloth(as hot as she can stand it, (the steam will also help her breathe) to clean the area, then put the lip balm on her lips and the area under her nose and around the nose. I would do this early in the morning and again after school after dinner and before bed. I know our lip balm sooths the skin, moisturizes and takes care of it in a day or so. I use to live in Chicago, and my kids and I would end up getting a few of these every year... Hope she feels better soon!

Any fragrance-free moisturiser you happen to have in the house should give relief and help start the healing process. You need to keep the area dry (so keep wiping, gently!), and re-apply whatever you are using every time you wipe that little nose. So if you are going to the pharmacy, I'd look for a tiny empty bottle or jar that you can put some in and keep in your pocket everywhere you go.

I put lansinoh on skin irritations of all kinds. It heals it up really fast and is non-irritating.

aquaphor works the best!

Whenever my boys get really chapped lips or super dry, red skin from licking them too much, I use the Lansinoh nipple cream that's marketed for breastfeeding. It is NOT painful, although it is quite thick -- it will stay on and protect and soothe that tender, sore skin. Works like a charm for our family! Hope she feels better soon!

Try some Aquaphor. That stuff is GREAT and works on everything chapped! Good luck.

My best suggestion would be to put some aloe vera under her nose and switch to aloe vera tissues.

Just Vaseline, it keeps the area moisturized so it will not drop out from blowing her nose.

I use Lansinoh cream ( the same stuff u use when nursing). It is awesome! It has no taste, no smell. It will help heal her nose pronto! Good Luck!
