I just have to share this. I have 3 boys ages 8,5, and 11 months. So today we were in Dollar General and the checkout lady asked me the same question everyone asks "Are you done or are you going to try for a girl?" I always say I wouldn't have a girl it would be a boy so probably not. My oldest is like yes she is having more I want a sister! WHAT little boy wants a sister? Probably one with a bratty younger brother..and a little girl cousin who adores him Anybody else have a child who actually wants another sibling?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I need to clarify something. I am 31 years old and am not an idiot. I know that my sons will not be taking care of a new baby nor would I have a baby because my kids want one. I just think its odd that my 8yo son and 5yo son want a sister. Boys usually want brothers and girls usually want sisters. It wasn't really a question for advice but just something for fun to share. Thanks for the people who got me!

my 4 year old keeps telling me she wants to be a big sister. For a few months she told me she wants to be a chef when she grows up. Now she's telling me she wants to be a chef when she grows up, but she wants to be a big sister more.

When my husband and i decided we wanted another we did talk to the kids about it, they are older, 11, 10 and 8 so while it wasn't their choice it obviously was going to really change their world. They all really wanted another sibling, although my daughter really wanted a sister, and cried when the ultrasound tech said it was another boy, that last until about the first time she felt him kick and she's been hooked ever since. They adore our baby boy, and fight for his attention, and spend a ton of time with him (ok, normally only 10 minutes here and there, when they walk through a room, but it's enough that the baby is NOT happy on the weekends the big kids are with their dad)

My daughter does! And we're trying but so far, no luck :( She waivers between a sister or brother but currently she is "asking" for one of each (twins)- as long as they don't stay in her room or mess up her stuff. lol :)

I have twin five year olds - and for their entire life up until November we said we'd never have any more children. They have said for some time they'd like a brother or sister (basically they'd want a baby).... And, that's all cute and dandy, but they won't be the ones up in the middle of the night, changing diapers, feedings, etc., and taking care of the five year olds. It is also not their responsibility to take care of a potential baby, just to be big sisters.

Now, my husband and I made a personal decision in November to try one more time, and I was pregnant in December. This decision was between my husband and I as adults, and we did not share our plans with our daughters until we were pregnant.

Having said that, i think its cute your boys want a little sister. But it is up to you and your husband to make that decisions.... Good luck!

My youngest (of 6) prays for a new baby everyday. All of my children want another baby. Even the 18 year old.

I have a daughter (3.5 yo) that desparately wants a sister :) She too has a girl cousin who has a sister and they all play together a lot -- they adore each other. My daughter has a 2 year old brother and another brother on the way (29 weeks prego now) so you can understand her position :) We are thinking of 1 or 2 more but I tell her that we don't control that and she could very well end up with tons of more brothers....ha!

Oh 4 would be a handful! LOL! Anyhow, I have a 5 month old son and a 3.5 year old daughter. All my daughter talks about lately is wanting a sister. In fact, she was trying to get me to buy a cute little girl outfit at Target the other night for her baby sister. The way she said it was as if I already knew I had a baby girl in my belly. I had to look around to make sure no one I knew was around and thought that I was crazy enough to already be going for #3! we are going to try for another eventually, but I told her she needs to talk to God about having a sister since sometimes he might think she wants another brother (she didn't like the idea of another brother since she already has one).

When our daughter was three she kept saying she wanted a baby sister. I got pregnant and told her it could be a baby brother. No, she said. I want a baby sister. She would put her hand on my belly and "hello sister". Well, her sister's name is Michael! Boy was she mad! When her daddy told her she had a baby brother she looked right at him and said "I told you I wanted a baby sister. Send it back and get me one". Well, obviously that wasn't going to happen! She didn't talk to me for at least a week! Fast forward, she is now 22 and he is 18. She is now talking to me again!!!!

My niece who recently turned 4 asks my sister *everyday* for a baby sister. My sister works, is the main income earner for the family, has a crazy hectic schedule and can't imagine having another child right now. My niece is aware of this. I had a conversation with the little girl a few weeks ago that went a bit like this:

"When I get my baby sister, I'm going to take really good care of her. Mommy won't have to do ANYTHING because I will do EVERYTHING!"

"Well, sweetie, what if it's a baby *brother*?"

"Oh. Well I don't want that."

"You know, you can't really choose if it's going to be a boy or a girl. With babies, you get what you get and you don't get upset."

"No, I don't want a brother. It has to be a sister. If it's a boy, he can just be mommy's baby and I won't help her."

There's a pretty good chance she'll be an only child at this rate. But she spends so much time at my house with my kids that instead of being an only child or a big sister, she's more like the youngest of four. She is a very determined and persistent child, so she may very well get her way and end up with a baby sister!

I have a four year old son that desperately wants a sibling. He has told people I am going to have two babies. He has even named them. I am going to have a girl Howie Jordan Maddie and a boy Howie. It is very cute and I would love to have another baby when the time is right. I hope he can wait.

i'm not sure if the question is what kid wants a sibling, but what kid doesnt? but they just want it for a playmate. it's us parents that have to have all the responsibility - which is why it is OUR choice. :)

My daughter is an only child, and morethenlikely will always be, wants a sibling. She will be getting a cousin in Nov, so she is happy with that :) In the end it is the parents who decide, but it is touching to know that your child would be ok for having another sibling.

To me, it's like a kid wanting a dog. Fun to play with for the 1st week, and then no one wants to clean up after it or take it for a walk!!
