Definitely call the doctor. Babies this little can go downhill pretty quickly, even if they are full term. The fever and the diarrhea would worry me. Get him seen today if possible. Good luck! Hope he's alright.
My Preemie 6 week old sleeps through feedings and diaper changes, and seems to be too tired to even care if he gets fed..now when he was in the NICU he did have Jaundice...could he still have jaundice and that might be whats causing this? Cause on top of all that hes had diarrhea since Friday, 7/9/2010, Does anyone have any advice as to what could be happening? He also had a slight fever of 100.1 on monday? Help! Im a new mom and i have no clue to what is wrong with my little man..
Ok so i just took him to my family doc whom is not a pediatrician, and all he could say was oh i cant find anything wrong with him, so he made an appt for us to see a pediatrician..TOMORROW! I dont know if i feel comfortable with TOMORROW! What do you think i should do..am i over reacting?

If it was me, I'd call my ped's nurse and ask for advice, they may ask you to bring him in or tell you it is normal. The sleeping doesn't concern me as much as the fever and diarrhea, but I have no experience with preemies either.
I would call your dr. ASAP
you need to call the pediatrician and have him seen. any temp above 100,0 degress especially in a newborn preemie needs to be seen. i used to work in pediatrics. just to be on the safe side and have him checked out.
This is definitely something to call th eped on. My first were 6 weeks premature and could sleep through a change early on but if your little one has a fever and dairrhea, you want to avoid dehydration. Check with the ped to make sure he is not having other problems.
My first baby was right on time and she always slept through diaper changes....even as she got way older. Me and my hubby would always just laugh at how she would just sleep like a rock. And I remember when she was very first born I would have to wake her up to feed her...other wise she would have slept all night and I was always told don't let an infant go longer than 4 hours without eating if they are breast fed. So your baby sounds pretty normal for a new born. I mean it's good your taking him in just to double check but I bet he is fine.
I can share our situation if it helps. Our twin boys were born at 28 weeks and spent 8 weeks in the NICU. When they came home (still a month before their due date), we had very strict instructions to keep them on a regular schedule - waking them every three hours to eat (changing their diapers at the same time to help them to wake up enough to eat). We were told that the prematurity means that they still need more sleep than a full-term infant (and some of those sleep through feedings, too) but that they need the nutrition even more.
Good luck with the pediatrician. If you don't get the satisfaction you need, ask about seeing a neonatologist. Since you don't mention it, I don't know how early your little guy was, but these doctors (they are typically the ones on staff at the NICU) are trained to understand the little ones who arrive before they are fully developed...
When my baby was that age she wouldn't wake up for eat, I actually had to wake her up so she could eat but sometimes it was a mission impossible.
I had to wet a cloth and wet her face.
It wasn't nothing wrong with her, just very sleepy.
I would still bringing her to a pediatrician to give you some peace of mind.
Premature babies can sleep alot , my 3rd born was 6 wks early and she slept alot , to the point where she didn't wake up for feeds and we just had to make sure we fed her anyway and didn't let her go longer than 3 hrs between feeds. As for the diarrhea and fever , I would be concerned about that , have you called the peds office yourself or was it the other Dr? I would call myself and explain that your 6 wk old has a fever and diarrhea for more than 48 hrs and I am sure they will want to see you sooner rather than later. You are not over reacting , at this young age you cannot give them anything unless told to by a Dr so go ahead and make that call and put your mind at rest.
Good luck

Congrats on your little one!
Babies in general love to sleep! Sometimes they need a little help reminding them they need to eat. Are you breast feeding or formula feeding or both? If you are breast feeding it's important to feed regularly or on demand. For the first 3 or 4 months. Don't let him sleep thru feedings. Wake him gently. Also because he has had jaundis you want to feed him often and by doing this you will be able to check his diaper. He needs 6-8 wet diapers a day maybe more and at least 2 stools. If he has had a temp, I would call your pediatritian ASAP! If he is still yellow and the whites of his eyes are yellow as well as very sleepy, I'd take him to see the pediatrician! Also putting him in a little sunlight helps with jaundis!
Hope this helps! I know being a new parent is frightening, but trust your instincts!
You are right to follow up with the pediatrician, but he's been seen by your doctor so I wouldn't worry unless your instincts are telling you something is wrong. I used to have to take my son's clothes off (except for a diaper) to get him to eat-- for a month after he was born and he was full term. I do think a fever is worrisome, so I would keep checking his temp and call the doctor immediately if it is over 100 again. Keep him hydrated, and if you are in doubt, go to the ER.
My youngest was taken by C-section a month early and he slept thru diaper changes and didn't really want to eat so I think this is normal for an early baby but the fever and the diarrhea is scary! Call your doctor really fast.
How do you know its diarrhea? If its very thin and mucusy then it may be diarrhea. I was also told that your preemie will not start to be more awake for feeding till he reaches his 40 week gestational age. On top of that babies can be extremely sleepy for the first 6 weeks. A fever however is not good and should be looked into.
