My husband had some fillings done by a new dentist, and his teeth continued to be sensitive for 6 months afterward. He finally went to a different dentist, one with much more experience, who said the fillings were too big. He filed down the fillings so they were smaller, and my husband hasn't had any trouble since. Good luck!

sensitivity (particularly to hot or cold) is common after fillings. It will calm down in time. Something my (very wise) dentist once told me is this: sometimes the more you mess with something, the more irritated it will get. It is often best (in this type of situation) to give it a little time before you go in and start messing around again. The more you poke and prod, etc.. the more irritated you can make it.
Give it another month or so.. and in the meantime, try to avoid temperature extremes in your food/drinks. If you had 8 fillings done close together, then I'm not surprised you are having a few sensitivity issues. Talk to your dentist and just see if they want to peek in your mouth in the event there was a problem with anything.. but most likely you just need to hang in there for a few more weeks. They may have tips on how to handle the pain if you ask.

Yeah, the sensitivity will be there for a while, cold water, ice-cream, hot soup, pretty much anything with extreme temps would hurt. I used Sensodyne for my toothpaste during that time and it really helped. It will eventually go away, but for me it took months.

I had this experience after going to a dentist (I thought he was rough) back in CA and my tooth hurt and hurt and was so very sensitive. I finally got a root canal on Dec 23rd, best Christmas present I had that year!!! This was the same year I had my son, and he said (true or not I dont know) that pregnancy can cause dental problems because of something like the hormones making your mouth more acidic or something or other like that.

Now, I switch to a sensitive teeth toothpaste whenever my teeth start feeling sensitive. I use it for a few days or a few weeks then switch back to my regular toothpaste, back and forth as needed.

Yes, I returned to the dentist and had my filling filed 2x and then redone with a spacer to make it not so sensitive, but it still is painful to chew on as well as with hot/cold, which they say is normal. I wish I had not had it filled in the first place! It has been 4 mo. and I am scared to go back.

clove oil. it kills bacteria in your mouth and is very useful for instant toothache relief. it has many other uses but i foung they use it for instant relief and healing for dry socket as well. for direct application use a dropper. i use it directly on my cavities until im able to make it to the dentist. if you swish it around in your mouth, use 1 or 2 drops in mouth wash. it tastes horrible. be careful not to get it on your skin. it burns. it burns your the inside of your mouth too but it is worth it. just try not to swollow it although clove is used a a digestive aid too so it probably wont hurt you. is a miracle how quick it works. you'll find it at health food stores.

Yeah white fillings are more sensitive. But a month is a long time according to M.. If it doesn't reduce at all , you need to get checked again if there is anything else going on. Has the doc checked for bite adjustment? Sometimes that causes a lot of sensitivity issues too.

I had a mercury filling and I expected alittle pain after, but it was horrendous. After 2 weeks, I went back and the dentist had to file it down becasue the filling was hitting the other tooth wrong, messing up my bite and putting too much pressure on the nerve. The pain started going away after that, but it took 6 months before it was gone completely. Nerves heal slowly!
