My Youngest Son Is Highley Allergic to Milk

We found out about a year ago that my youngest son is highley allergic to milk and milk products. So we cant feed him anything that has eggs, nuts or seafood because most children that are allergic to milk become allergic to these items as well. He is 15 months old now and it seems like he can only eat a couple different things. I was just wondering if anybody else has any new recipes or ideas that I can try.

What can I do next?

Hi H.!
I grew up protien intolorant and was not allowed to eat anything but vegetables and French fries. It was a horrible experience and I know what you all are going through. There are so many recipes on the internet these days and they are fun to try and eat. My parents did so much for me when I was a child but there are so many other sources for you to get this information from. They were limited in ideas because there was not many sources back then. Just a little encouragement for you...I grew out of it when I was like between 10 and 12. So hang in there and I am sure that you will be creative in finding recipes for your son.
I did find this for you!

They have recipes and support.

Good luck and have fun creating dishes!!
Sincerely,

Hi,

My 15 month old is also allergic to milk, eggs & wheat. There are a few things we have tried. He can have soy milk, & Parkay butter substitute in the blue squeeze bottle. I get alot of baby foods & add rice cereal, sugar, vanilla soy milk, & the parkay. He really likes that especially w/sweet potatoes. He can have Tyson brand Chicken nuggets. Any kinds of fruits & vegetables, rice, beans. You can season it with the parkay & salt. I make him creamed potatoes with the soy milk & parkay. Whole Foods has alot of soy stuff he can have: soy ice cream, soy pudding, etc. They also have an egg replacer you can use for baking. You can get the egg replacer online if you don't have a whole foods nearby. Gerber apple wagon wheels, lots of cereals, chicken(not breaded), ham, turkey, beef, spaghetti (read the label on the sauce). For fast food he can have wendys & burger king's fries, NOT Mcdonalds they have milk in them. That's all I can think of right now.

Hope that helps!

My daughter is 7 weeks old today, and at her birth she was diagnosed with Galactosemia with the new born screening. She can having nothing with the sugar galactose which is found in all milk products and even fruits and veggies like tomatos. She is missing the enzyme that break down that sugar. It is very overwhelming for parents when a child has a food restriction like this. I know I keep asking myself, how will my child overcome this at school? Do I need to fix her a sack lunch every time she goes to a friend's house? I highly suggest talking to a very good nutritionist. A good nutritionist will give you examples of what your child can eat along with meal guides. They can even tell you down to the brand that your child should eat. One brand of crackers or bread may have milk while another brand does not milk. If insurance doesn't pay for it(it should however), I pay the money out of pocket to see one. It will make you feel much more in control of the situation and help you look at the obstacle in a positive light.
Good Luck!

Hi H.,
I am a Mom and a Naturopathic Practitioner as well. I deal with patients every day with some of these allergies. Have you tried rice milk? Did you know you do not need dairy in your diet to thrive? He can still get the same vitamins in a multi vitamin than he will from the milk alone. As a matter of fact I am strongly against dairy all together. My daughter drinks soy or rice milk, soy cheese and soy yogart. Can your son tollerate soy? If so, there are a lot of options for him. I'll be happy to help you out anytime. Thanks, T.

I am vegan (I don't eat meat, dairy, eggs or any other animal bi-products) but I raise my children non-vegan. Since I do not raise them vegan I'm not sure about specific recipes for toddlers, but you could probably search for vegan baby recipes on the internet. There are plenty of sites that specialize in vegan recipes and you can be assured that those would not have any milk or eggs. Hope this helps.
