I'd talk about it with the pediatrician at his next checkup. The health of the nails (or lack of) can point to certain medical/nutritional problems. Weak nails can be a sign of a thyroid problem.

Oh, it could be a varity of issues from a vitamin/mineral deficiancy, to a fungus, to eczema or psoriasis to seasonal changes. Make an appointment with the pediatrician just to be sure it isn't a sign of something more serious, and to get suggestions on what best to do for it. It is hard to tell you how to fix it when the underlying cause is unknown :)

Let us know how it turns out, take care.

You need to be a little more specific here......the skin around his nails are scaly or his nails are scaly? Either way, I think it might be good for a doctor to look at it to make sure it's not a deficiency in something. Like vitamin D......
Is your son on vitamins? If not, I suggest that immediately.

My nails have always been weak........no matter what I do..........but not scaly.....I would suggest you get him to a doctor and make sure it's not anything to be really concerned about. Better to be safe than sorry.

Take care.
