Depends on your preference, but think of it this way...Do you expect the nanny will be providing less care to your children? Do you expect the level of care will be less? Honestly, I think nannies should be paid according to the amount of care they are providing and their experience. A great nanny can give your kids just as much attention and care even with her child there, so I don't think she should be penalized financially. If I thought she couldn't do as good of a job as someone who wasn't bringing their kid with then, I wouldn't hire her, so paying her less wouldn't be the issue for me. I'm sure having a great nanny for your kids is the most important thing for you in the end, so whatever you plan to pay for her, I would pay regardless if she is bringing her child with.

I am a single mother of a 1 1/2 year old son and I do bring my child to work with me as a nanny. I work part time for two seperate families and get paid very well. One family has a 3 1/2 year old and a 1 year old, and the other has a 10 month old, 2 year old, and a five year old. When I started with the first family I made it very clear that I would not play favorites and the mother and I have become best friends. The other women was her friend and when I was ready to leave my other part time job, she offered me a position. I had origionally applied with her and she had the same concerns, so she turned me down to later go on to hire me. My view is that you truly get what you pay for and to have a mother working with your children is a blessing because they truly understand the facts of parenting. I am basically mom's personal assistant and do whatever it takes to make her job easier and I truley do love the kids as well. Hope this helps. Good luck and you'll know when you find the right nanny!

This might be a great question to pose to the Nanny: "How do you feel your pay rate reflects your services against other nannies that would not bring other children to the house?" See what she says -- this may be a negotiation tool for you.

I do not have a nanny. However, I would expect to pay a lesser amount if the nanny/babysitter is spreading her attention amongst children other than yours.

My nanny bring her child with her over the summer and on school holidays. I think it might be better. My son adores her and he actully getsmore attention. Of course the child is older (11 yo) and my son is still small (not yet 2). But I have never paid her less because of this. It was a point she discusssed before we hired her.
