She's too little for a perm. Don't try to change her hair! Let her be.

Ok honey- I gotta ask- why do you care if her hair is nappy? Especially in bad weather, just be practical! Most striaghteners and products are made for adult hair and 1 1/2 is just too little- she doesn't need that!I bet she is just beautiful, curly/nappy/frizzy hair, whatever! :) Natural hair is in- get her a couple cute little stretchy headbands or bows and let it be what it is :)

Our friend recommended using jojoba oil and letting it sit overnight and then wash most of it out, leaving some in for conditioning. I also found a little extra jojoba on the ends at night is helpful. I think the great thing about jojoba is that it absorbs well. Good luck and don't perm!

I agree below. She's only 1 1/2 years old; way too young for a perm. What you can do is double strand twists. Go to the beauty supply store and get the mango n lime twist/lock wax or something similar and double strand twists her hair. When she awakes in the morning, just spray her hair with the braid and lock spray or use oil moisturizer to keep the twists in place (they may be all over her head from sleeping).

Definitely, no chemicals in her hair! I know it may be tough to manage but trust me, you'll regret doing it this early.

Hi Cheryl:

My understanding of the word "nappy" is that it is a negative term used to describe Black hair that has very tight curls (or non-Caucasian hair). What do you mean by grease? Is this vaseline (petroleum), hair lotion, pomade??? Is it that your daughter's hair has very tight curls that are also dry? If so, there may be a lack of water consumption in her diet that causes dryness or dehydration. Topically, using a natural, herbal hair oil on the scalp and a little throughout the hair, two times per week, can help to keep the hair moisturized and easier to manage.

Check out the hair oil at http://www.wholecreations.com/haircare.html for the support you are looking for.

Take care.

We have the same issue.. plus once the hat and hood come off its a mess. So I now wet and do her hair an half hour or so before we leave. I tend to pull just the front back or to the side with a cute clip and make sure the back has curls not frizzy. Then once the hat comes off, fluff the back up a little. Whatever.. theyre kids and still cute.

I know a lady who had her daughter's hair braided in her sleep cost a little extra to have it done at the house during nap time but that may be the solution.
