Natural-leaning Pediatricians in the Richmond Heights/Maplewood/Clayton Area

Does anybody have any recommendations for pediatricians that have experience with natural treatments and home remedies? I am starting to feel like my pediatrician over-prescribes antibiotics. My son has had several ear infections and had tubes put in when he was 10 months. He has been on antibiotics so many times that I feel that they are starting to do some harm even though they *might* be doing some good. I know there times when antibiotics are absolutely necessary, but it would be nice to see a doctor that recognizes that sometimes natural treatments can be just as effective.

Dr. Irvine is amazing. She does prescribe antibiotics, but she tries her best to only prescribe when it is necessary. There have been several times when I almost wanted her to prescribe something, but she told me about things I could do at home to make him feel better.
She works at St. Mary's on Clayton and Bellvue.

I use Dr. Sara Cole as our pediatrician. She's a DO and is listed as Family Medicine, but she specializes in infants and children. She understands our wishes to use natural remedies in lieu of prescriptions if possible. She is located in Creve Coeur on Olive near the Heritage Plaza shopping center. If that's too far, you can try looking for a DO in your area as opposed to an MD. DO's tend to be more natural medicine friendly and they are not always listed as pediatricions also. Good Luck!

My pediatrician does prescribe antibiotics, but only when necessary. He does not believe in overmedicating and has given me some great natural remedies to try for a few ailments. His name is Andrew Zuckerman at Clayton Pediatrics.

Are they continuing to give him ammoxicillan? I ask because I know my son quickly built an immunity to it. I agree that Dr seem to push people out the door with ammox with the hope that it will "fix" the problem. I watch a couple kids and I was shocked when their parents told me they had a virus so the doc gave them ammox...last I knew antibiotics do nothing for a virus! While I cannot recommend a doctor, i can give you a small suggestion. If he is on regular milk try switching him to soy milk for a while. My oldest was supposed to have tubes put in his ears and he actually outgrew the problem, but we switched him to soy milk to reduce the mucus, it made a big difference. He is eight now and drinks milk with no problems. I also suggest not going to the doctor unless you feel it is absolutely necessary. My two and a half year old has not been to a dr since he was 2 months old and he is 100% healthy, he gets colds and little fevers, but he get over them faster than most, I think this is because his immune system is stronger due to the fact that his body, and his body alone, has been healing itself. Just a suggestion.
