Any ideas on how to get labor going? I am 39 1/2 weeks and I feel like a chicken stuffed with a turkey. I am ready. Is there anything I can do to gently convince my son that he is, too?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi,

What worked for me was: 1) sliding down a sliding board with kid #1 on my lap. Next day, kid #2 arrived. And 2) making love the night before. THAT
got him moving! ;)

Good luck!

P.S. BTW, pitosin is awesome if you need to get the labor going good, once you're at the birthing center.

I have a labor recipe :) It's called, sex, pump for 30 minutes, walk for 30 minutes. Repeat. If you can throw in your midwife/doctor stripping your membranes at some point, that is great! Good luck on welcoming your baby!

Evening Primrose Oil and Red Raspberry Leaf Tea are good. They may not get you into labor, but they will both help your uterus prepare for labor, and may get you going earlier. However, if your son is not ready to be born, then forcing him to be born early (even with "natural" methods), may cause problems for him.

The main thing to remember is: if you're already ready, "natural" methods may start labor, but if you're not, they likely won't. I've also heard and read many stories, including from some of my friends, that indicate that when they induce "naturally" (like with castor oil, which I would recommend avoiding, as someone mentioned below), it ends up with a long and/or hard labor -- as if forcing your body into labor when you or your baby aren't actually ready -- ends up being worse on you.

Walking always helped me. I beg you do not try Castor Oil... so many people swear by it, but if can end up making you ill, have loose oily stools and likely cause the baby to poop meconium on delivery. Its not worth the risk. I have a fellow preschool mom that has a disable child due to taking castor oil and the baby breathed its meconium causing it to go in the lungs and not breath for several minutes, thus causing brain damage.

Chiropractors and acupunturists have techniques that may help to stimulate labor, so you may wish to consult one of these professionals. Keep in mind that you won't go into labor unless your body is really ready. You may feel ready, physically or emotionally, but that doesn't necessarily mean that your body is ready. Good luck!

My 8th child was a week over due and the doctor told me to take castor oil and it worked. With in hours I went into labor. It only works if you are ready to go and if not you just get cleaned out well. :-( Not sure how much but I put it in orange juice and it's been mentioned on here before in a reply so maybe you could find out the amount. I forgot. Other than that just wait patiently.
