Natural Minded Doctor

Hey, I live in the Cedar Hill/Duncanville area and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good doctor that has more of a tolerance to no vaccinations/revised vaccination schedules. I get some vaccinations for my kids, but not all of them and am getting a little tired of hearing how we might have trouble with schools and all that. Especially since she knows less about the vaccinations she so proudly recommends than I do. They don't have to be against vaccines, just more open to allowing me to make the educated decision myself. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for giving me some names. I think I will definitely call the doc in Arlington. Thanks Aimee! I don't suppose you have her number handy? If not, I will look it up.

And just so you all know, I wasn't trying to be cocky or rude about my doctor. All I am saying is that she didn't even know that Pc stood for Pneumococcal and did not know the ingredients in any vaccinations. She did not know that mercury is still in some shots, or the levels of aluminum that following a typical shot schedule injects into our infants. I know that doctors can't know everything, but it sounded like she had never thought to question the safety of immunizations. She was told they are safe and to give them to children and she does. And then acts like I am uninformed when I go in with questions on their safety. All I want is a doctor who realizes that I have a right to study this myself and am an intelligent person who can make an intelligent decision - even if it may disagree with her opinion. I apologize if I came off haughty. Thank you.

I also live in Duncanville. I have a 2 week old baby. The doctor we are using is Dr.Hunke. His office is off Wheatland by the Children's office. The address is 2828 Duke of Gloucestor in Desoto. It's across from Charlton. He,as well as his partner Dr. Townes, was highly recommended to me by several people.

I am very happy with him and his office staff so far. We have had 2 visits with him. I didn't get the Hep B shot for him at the hospital and Dr. Hunke didn't say a thing about it:) Hope this helps!

As a virologist, I can assure you that your doctor know more scientific information about vaccines than you do. Unless you are reading scientific papers in peer reviewed journals about vaccines then you are not making a well informed educated decision.

Hi S.
I'm glad you're going to find a doctor that is more in line with your personal beliefs. I can tell that you have really researched what immunizations are all about.

I asked my doctor recently about mercury too. He told me that mercury is still in some vaccinations, but not in any of the ones that are in our office. Is it possible that's what your doc meant?

I think doctors really want to do what's best for all children, and vaccinations are the safest chance for that. Definitely, you should do what you feel is right for your family, and if abbreviated vaccinations or no vaccinations are what you feel is right, then that's good.

I just really encourage you, in a sincere way, to investigate some of the epidemics that are beginning to resurface because of fewer kids in the US having been vaccinated. Here's a link from the CDC about recent measles outbreaks:
<a>http://www.cdc.gov/Features/MeaslesUpdate/&lt;/a&gt;
And here is one about a pertussis outbreak as recent as April of this year (here in Texas):

Clearly you are a smart and educated woman. I just want to say that getting vaccines is not only good for the health of your kids, but good for the health of other people as well (like those who are too young to be vaccinated, or those whose vaccines have worn off, those who are highly susceptible to infection such as the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems such as people going through chemotherapy treatment).

My intent is only to maybe give you another perspective to think about. I can tell that you care a lot about your family. I hope I haven't offended you but maybe given you something to consider.

Our doctor sees patients in Arlington and Mansfield. Her name is Sharon Dennis w/ Arlington Family Practice. I don't know of anyone closer to you. She is fine with whatever choice parents make on vaccinations. What you do sounds similar to me. We get most of the vaccines, but on a revised schedule. I do have friends that see her that have yet to do any vaccines. Dr. Dennis is a D.O so she uses a combination of natural and traditional medicine. That is right for us.

Also, in Texas, you will have no problem with schools or daycares as long as you get the vaccine exemption form from the TX Dept. of State Health Services. You can do it online. It is easy. ONce you get it, you fill it out and have it notarized before giving it to the school instead of/or along with the shot record. Texas is so great on this issue that you don't even have to have a religious exemption like in other states. You can just make it based on conscience.

I changed from an otherwise great pedi. when she tried to scare me into another health decision w/dd. I hate it when they try to use fear to get you to do what they want. Especially, when there is plenty of evidence to do otherwise!

Good LUck
