Natural Stomach Cleanse for My 19 Month Old Son...

Hello!
For the past week I've noticed that my sons breathe has been smelling not to pleasant. We brush & floss his teeth (as much as we can) at least 2 times a day. Also, he's had a hard time going #2 for the past week so i'm assuming him not being able to go #2 very well is making his tummy dirty which is ultimately making his breathe smell. I heard prune juice with a little bit of sprite is good for a tummy cleanse BUT my son has never had soda and if i can keep it that way and give him something else, that'd be great!! Thank you in advance!!

P.S. He eats VERY well. We dont have any problems with fruits and veggies. He's had an ALL NATURAL diet since birth so he loves them.I think the only reason he's been constipated is because he had a few french fries for the first time the other day and i dont think his stomach was able to handle it since its not use to it.

THe kids section at Whole foods has high grade cod liver oil - lemon flavored (smells good!). Give him a teaspoon of that at night before bed, and he should have to poop in the morning. if not, another teaspoon! a few days of that, and he should be good to go!

Hi there -

Have you considered giving him some children's probiotics for his tummy? I would definitely consult a doctor first however my doctor who is also a homeopath has recommended probiotics for my son who is much younger. Her website is www.drfeder.com

Good luck!

M.,

I'm with you on not giving soda to kids as well. My almost 3 years old has had soda maybe 2x (at the hand of her grandparents :o)

What if you mix the prune juice with some club soda, or a natural sparkling juice?

Hope that all systems are go soon!

Be blessed,

K.

Hi.
My son use to have bad breath and our dr said it was due to a cold/sinus thing he had going on. I wouldn't do any type of "cleanse" without talking to your doctor first.
Good luck.

I would recommend lots of water to help with constipation... increase his green veggies (or supplement with liquid chlorophyll which has been shown to be an internal cleanser). I had a bf with really bad breath and I put him on the chlorophyll and it worked like a charm! I could kiss him lol. Check on any contraindications for kids, but I highly doubt there would be any since it's in all green veggies... keep it small amounts though and it will turn whatever you give him bright green! Maybe try reading green eggs and ham to him so he doesn't balk at the idea of something green?

Okie dokie - yes, I COMPLETELY buy into the idea that the fries are the culprit on the constipation side of things. Does that to my oldest, too. (But not my youngest - ah well, eveyone's different and my yougest has a gut like a stellar black hole. Nothing can escape...) Here's the good news, that is info you can use later on! i.e. the next time his poop is a little on the loose side, it's time for some therapeutic Micky D's! ;-)

Can't say I know much about a "tummy cleanse" for a little guy, but I used a little flax oil quite sucessfully to soften up poops with my second son. (ironically, oranges of any sort usually work like magic with the French fry sensitive dude.)

One other thing that helps me (and how I found out about the correlation of fries and the oranges) was to write down everything that they eat and when they poop. It only takes a couple of seconds and I just put it on my schedule so if they have problems, I can look back at what they've eaten to see if there's a problem.

Hope this helps. (Sorry you may have seen all this with one of your other posters. I didn't check them before I wrote.)
:-)

Hi M.! Your son's unpleasant breath may be due to dry mouth, which could be caused from several factors, like congestion and having to breathe through his mouth or simply lacking enough fluids or another reason. I would think that he may just require more fluid intake than what he's been getting, which would also help with his constipation. Pears are a great natural source to help with that. At this point, you may want to try a little pear juice with lots of water and include a couple of pears a day in his diet. I've done that with my oldest son and it's worked very well for him. My kids have lots of food allergies so I've had to find ways to keep them balanced the natural way while on such restricted diets. You wouldn't want to give any kind of laxative without consulting your doctor first. In my opinion, I don't think there's anything "natural" about cleansing. And always remember that the child's body is always changing as they're growing. Hope everything turns out well.

When my kids get constipated I was told by the pediatrician to give them pear juice. It never took very much and it always worked. Sometimes I would need to give it to them for a couple days. I would give them half of one of those small Gerber baby juice bottles diluted with water. I could never keep a big bottle of pear juice in the house as it would always cause the runs if they drank more than a couple ounces a day so I'd keep a small pack of the Gerber juice bottles in the house just in case.
If there's something bothering him it's a good way to clear anything out. It also can't really hurt as it's only pear juice. Just don't give too much or it could make a mess ;)

Why don't you check with the Pediatrician... to rule out anything, first... before you guess and give him things.

Smelly breath can mean anything.... or many things.

Hi,

My son suffered of constipation when he was a baby and he would strain himself when he tried to go #2, my mom gave him little less than 1/2 tsp of olive oil with 1-3 grains of regualr house salt, and before you know it he was pooping and no strain. I kept doing that ever since. did it with my daughter too. As for the breath, im not sure... but GOOD LUCK!!!

Hello M..

I would start with a basic suppository that you can get from the drug store that goes in the back end first. See if he gets back to normal after that. If not, then try the prune juice. Perhaps he is getting too much iron from some source.

Best of luck

he may have a tonsil infection , or ear infection. id take him to the doc . To relieve constipation gently try yo baby yogurt twice a day with 1/4 more clear liquids , sugar free , h20 is best . When constipation clears 1 time a day is sufficient.
sorry for no caps one handed typing with baby on lap :)

When my daughter (almost 5 years old now) gets backed up, I rub CASTOR OIL on her tummy, navel and soles of her feet. Usually by the end of the next day, she has a movement. Another thing you might consider is laying him on his back and one by one, taking his legs and bending his knees towards his chest. Hold for a minute or so (or as long as he will allow). Then do both legs together. I've read that this movement stimulates the bowels. Good luck!

Why not just the plain prune juice? You can water it down. Or add club soda rather than sprite?

My daughter's pediatrician told us to give her a couple of teaspoons of milk of magnesia for constipation. Luckily it's only happened to her twice. Like you, we only eat natural, unprocessed foods. Sometimes constipation can be related to illness (such as after a bout with diarrhea).
