Need a Good Read

I love to read when I can find the time (ususally early am, after bedtime, or in waiting rooms). I prefer paper books and used to pass them forward as soon as I was done. Now even my retired mother uses a Kindle and my souces (besides the library) have dried up. Has anyone read any good books lately?? Kids books suggestions are always welcome as my kids love to read/be read to.
I work in a call center for a large company. Ive had a few really interesting customers that recommended kids books when I mentioned I was a mother. A retired doctor said that he always recommended The Dictionary of Imanginary Places (it is really cool). I also spoke with a customer that was very proud of all 5 of his grown children. He mentioned that one of his sons is an author and offered to send me the book. When he told me the title (The True Story of The Three Little Pigs) I told him that we already had the book in our collection and love it. His family pride would have melted your heart.
EDIT**
The kids are 4-9 and their faves are rhyming type books-any Mo WIlliams and The Pout Pout Fish. The 9 year old likes chapter books and is currently reading Mary Downing Hahn ghost stories.

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies!! I do read ebooks on the iPad, but prefer to have real books too. Keeping the kids quiet at the library can be difficult. Now I have a list to pull from instead of hoping they will behave while I peruse.

One of my friends recommended the maximum ride series by James Patterson. It is aimed at young teens, but is a fast and entertaining read. I read the first book in about 3 days, and I don't have a great deal of free time to devote to reading.

Some I've read lately...Gone Girl, Kitchen Confidential, and am currently reading Operating Instructions by Anne Lamott...it's a hilarious/real book about a first time mom and the first year of her baby's life. Very quick and entertaining read. Also Molly Ringwald has written a couple of good books.

I don't know what you like to read...drama, military, thriller....

There are a lot of good authors out there.

I have LOVED Janet Evanovitch - and her Stephanie Plum series

I REALLY like Sue Grafton

I recommend the Kindle. My girlfriend gave me her old one when she got the FIRE...yeah - it's a tad different...but it's a great way to read as well - and you have a WHOLE library in your purse instead of just one book!

Good luck!!!

I actually enjoyed the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer, and just finished The Host, also by Stephanie Meyer. My son is on book two of The Hunger Games right now and loves it. I like anything by Stephen King or Dean Koontz. Pillars of the Earth and World Without End by Ken Follett were great. I loved The Road by Cormack McCarthy and The Passage by Justin Cronin.

Honestly? Okay. Yes I am a Harlequin (brand of books) reader. I like the Presents series, but actually started out on the Romance line. And it stimulates the imagination of where the novel takes place, imagining the hero, imagining the passion...Yeah I enjoy them. And they're easily purchased online. Call me a junkie, but I enjoy them. Growing up I was not a voluntary reader. It wasn't until I was in college that Cosmopolitan magazine got me morphing into a reader. And to the point that I wouldn't mind trying my luck at writing. Fan fiction I have done, but it's very restricted to A character/tv show, and you can only do so much. The Left Behind series of books....I went through several in half a month, they were so captivating! And that's no lie. I got irritable having to wait for the next book! But wow! Great stuff. Excellent fiction, but scripture based. And there's a "Jr." set of them for the younger crowd. So if you like fiction, and want a good read, I highly recommend the Left Behind series. WAY better than the movies that were made after them(3).
I do little reading during the day, if any. I save reading to the end of the day, when I'm relaxing in bed. Usually one to two chapters before turning out the light.

i'm almost done with "saving cee cee honeycut" and I started it last night after the kids went to bed!

if you're looking for cheap but want to move forward with technology, get a nook. they have free fridays, any pdf can be read on them, the classics are free or super low cost from B&N (and free from other sites) and my library has a lending library of nook versions of about 10,000 titles. I've paid for only 4 or 5 books on my nook in the two years I've had it! and I average 6-8 books per month.

i use B&N for recommendations too. put in a favorite author and see "what other people bought" has led to some good reads!

Happy reading! Each of the books I read straight through because I could not put them down!

Your 9 yr old might enjoy Peg Kehert books. They are really exciting. Also, have your kids done any C.S. Lewis books or Harry Potter?

I just finished reading "I Couldn't Love You More". I can't remember who the author was and I have already returned it to the library but I do know that it is relatively new (like 2012). Good easy read about a mom/almost step-mom. Great story.
