Need a Good Therapist/counselor.....

I am of the belief that everyone could benefit from talking to someone. I am not in a depression, but I feel I could near one if I don't start processing a few things...it's been a long time since I've had a really good talk with someone. And since my dd has been having "panic attacks" around other babies and children I have been isolated from friends.
Does anyone have a good, down to earth psychologist, counselor, therapist, spiritual leader I could speak to? It could also be someone who specializes in marraige, but does not have to be.
I live in Pittsburgh. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

Dr. Lawrence Newman and his wife have a practice in Squirrel Hill which is quite close to you. They both have a lot of experience in working with families, couples and children and might be able to help you. I believe he is listed. I remember your initial posting for your little one, it sounds like things have not improved. I hope that will change soon. Take care.

Hi S.!

I had a great counselor in the few months after I had my son, (he's now almost 2) and I know it really, really does help to talk to someone, even if you think you don't need it. (like I did) Her name was Rachel, and here is her website, and the website to the office where she is. They also have a variety of other counselors there that specialize in different areas. I also adivse to check with your Insurance Provider first! (mine didn't cover even though the office accepted it--UGH! that was a mess too!) Best Wishes to you..: )

S., I highly recommend Kristie Guthrie, Hope Counseling Services (www.ehopecc.com). She is an excellent therapist. You can reach her via phone at ###-###-#### or 1.800.652.1560. She works out of a doctor's office off McKnight Rd. Definitely give her a call.

Take care,

G. Stasko

S.,
Doesn't sound like you are in need of a therapist..maybe just getting back into the swing of hanging with some friends you havent seen in awhile. I think friends are the best listeners...they will tell you like it is, not cover it with a bunch of bull/what you wanna hear. Besides, it's been awhile since you had a little one around (with a teenager and a newborn) that could complicate things. E-mail me anytime if you just need to vent or chat! Good luck

S.,

I don't have the name of a counselor or therapist but I do have a recommendation. I know that you say that your daughter has been having panic attacks around other children and babies. Perhaps having a regular playdate with someone would help. Sometimes in life we have to face fears to get over them. Sometimes we need to help our children face their fears and anxieties.

If you are in need of another mom that would understand what your daughter is going through and would be willing to put up with it, let me know. You can email me at ____@____.com. I too live near the Waterfront (in the Greenfield area). My youngest is 11 months old. (I also have a 4 year old and an 8 1/2 year old). If you would like to try to get together for a playdate sometime, let me know.

Sometimes a little time when you don't have to deal with your child's anxiety alone and can vent to another mom can help enormously. Email me if you would like to try.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
