I have a Sharp vacuum from Steve Black as well, works great! After moving, I still drive all the way to Plano to Steve Black for my vacuum needs.
I am looking for a great hardwood vacuum. I have hand scraped hardwood floors and I have gone through 3 vacuums in 3 years. I liked the last one I bought, but eventually the wheels broke off, It wasn't cheap either. I have found that the larger vacuums with hard floor settings don't work well on my floors, I need something smaller and more light weight. Any suggestions??
Thanks for all the advice everyone! I am still shopping around, but have some good ideas.

We have a small canister vacuum made by Sharp. We've had it at least 8 years, and it still works great on the wood floors. We bought it from Steve Black's Vacuums in Plano on Parker Rd (near Independence, I believe). Even if they no longer carry this particular one, I'm certain they can recommend a good one. We have always been pleased with their customer service & high quality vacuums. Good luck!
Wow! I never heard of wheels breaking off a vacuum cleaner!
Have you thought about getting a dust mop for some of the daily work? They are so easy to use - just don't shake them off indoors!
get a roomba, it works beautifully on my hardwoods!
I can second Steve Black - he will give you all the advice and best vacuum for YOU! Not just what works for others. But I have a roomba - and I LOVE IT. I have scraped woods as well and I leave to go to the gym, come back and the floor is clean.
I have the newest model of Oreck and I love it. It also came with the canister for attachments that you can wear on your shoulder. The canister is great as well, I use the attachments to clean the air vents, ceiling fans, etc. LOVE IT.
I LOVE this vac. It is SO lightweight, does a great job, HEPA filter, great warranty, yearly cleaning and checks included. I will never own another vac. We did pay about $800 or so but it is totally worth it and I have had it less than 6 weeks. I don't have the need for the extra vac upstairs anymore because this one is so lightweight with a long cord, I just take it upstairs!
I have some hardwoods and I am very leary to use anything on them. The Oreck is plastic on the bottom so it will not scratch however, I use the canister to do most of the quick sweep on the woods and then go back with my cleaner on dust mop.
I bought mine at the Plano store. Go in for a demo. Also....they will work a deal with you...just ask.
we have all tile and wood. We love our Riccar. You have to find a vacuum dealer I believe to sell you one. Not in regular stores. There is a dealer in Carrollton. Look up Vacuum stores. They are expensive but we have had ours for like 6 years and still going. They have a great warranty also. Miele is great also. Sells in same types of store.
Good Morning D.,
I love my Hoover Flair Bagless Vacuum. Here is a picture of it on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-S2220-Bagless-Upright-Vacuum... I think I got mine at Sears and paid around $60-70 for it. Good luck and God Bless.

Working from home and LOVING it!
We have a Sanitaire, it was about $300. We like it. My friend has a Dyson, and she loves it, but I think it is more.
I second the Oreck. I purchased my Oreck in 1998 as a refurbished/used model and it's still running to this day and I have 5 cats. Works great for our downstairs floors and upstairs carpets without switching settings.
