I am in need of a sitter once or twice a month. I like for the sitter to come to the house while my youngest naps. How do you moms find sitters. I asked some young girls at the gym and they told me to go to seekingsitters.com. Has anyone used this site?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had called RUF a college ministry about hiring babysitters to help fund their trip this summer. I havent gotten any sitters that way. I asked a woman at our church who has sitters and she said she'd ask them...no response. I am asking around, but now its time I need one. I am going to ask the teenagers at church about times they get home and if they will sit after school. After that I am going to call the colleges. Thanks for the idea.

I used sittercity.com when none of my friends could recommend any sitters for me. I was also looking for a sitter during the day. It's a fair amount of work, but I think I would have put the work in, in any case. I had 20 applicants for the job, 5 of whom were qualified enough to interview, and from those 5, I found my sitter. Overall, I am very pleased with her, and I would probably use the site again if I had to.

I am lucky I have family close and a few neighbor girls who help out. If you don't have that available to you, I would ask your friends who they use. I have never used seekingsitters.com but I would get recommendations from other moms. Good luck!

Call the local colleges. Many of them maintain a "babysitting list" of students who are interested in babysitting, along with their schedule. I know that I made a pretty decent living this way in college!

When we needed sitters, we talked to neighbors, were active in the neighborhood and met people. Our current HOA has a secured website and sitters can safely post there.

Now that our daughter is 17, she has been babysitting for a couple years and her jobs are all word of mouth. She has 3-4 regulars for weekends and averages $12-$15 an hour. She is very active with the children she works with.

If you go through neighborhood, friends, word of mouth, you can hopefully find someone who comes well recommended. Honestly, when I found a good one, I never gave out her name because I didn't want someone to steal her. I also paid her top dollar to keep her.

Good luck.

We talked to all our neighbors and friends and found 2 people in our neighborhood with teenage girls who like to babysit. Our friend used sittercity.com (or something like that) and found a wonderful woman who came with great references. She is a mom with a 10 year old daughter who is not working and likes to babysit for some extra money. Now we use her sometimes too.

You can call the job center at TCC. They will post your need and college kids will respond.
