We're travelling to New York next week with my (almost) 5-year-old and our 2-year-old. The 2-year-old is very small - about the size of a 12-month-old, in fact. I'm looking for a car seat option for the plane rather than lugging around her regular car seat. It's just so cumbersome and hard to carry. I've heard of some car seats that have little rolly things but aren't they really expensive? Or is there some sort of little dolly I can buy to lug the regular car seat? Any thoughts would be very helpful! Thank you!

We purchased the booster seats with the backs, for the 3- pound kiddo, for our then 2 year olds. They come apart and were easy to carry. There are those places you can rent things like that too, they may have something like that?

It fits kids 22 to 44 pounds and from 1 - 4 years of age. Or if you have a lap child, then you could use a baby flight vest, like the one at http://childtogo.com/catalog.htm?item=42.
I hated carrying the car seat around, so I usually checked it and used the CARES harness for the airplane seat.

We have always checked them in with our baggage and just put them in a bag we purchased at babies r us. It worked out perfectly. We have never taken the seat onto the plane so if that is what you are looking for, I have no information. Have fun on your trip though!
If you only need a car seat for the plane I think most airlines rent one. Then when you get to NY you can just rent one from the rental car place. If you are not renting a car they do have car seats that turn into a stroller try looking on craigs list you can probably find one cheap.

I've done several things in traveling with kiddos and car seats -- I've checked it at the gate... bought a little thing that you strap on/cover it up with that turns it into a backpack
One Step Ahead had the gogo Kidz Travelmate and it's basically a carseat on wheels... it's $90 but hey, looks well worth it to me for the convenience! :)

We bought a car seat bag from Babies R Us for about $20. It has a big strap that helps make it easy to carry through the airport. And if you take a stroller into the terminal with you, the car seat bags strap hangs nicely over the stroller handlebar. You can find these bags with wheels too. Good luck and have a great trip!!

Along the lines of the gogo kids, I had an umbrella stroller that my daughter's car seat would just fit in. Strap her in the seat, bunge the seat to the stroller, and go. You should absolutely take a car seat on the plane, it is the only safe way for a small child to travel. Check the label on the seat to make sure it is approved by the FAA for an airplane. Also measure the car seat width, as some are to wide to fit on airplane seats.
First call the airline. Some have specs for carseats they will allow. Secondly... we traveled with ours and it was awesome. We bought a booster with 5-pt harness... and it was lighter and folded up and had a handle (I wish I could remember the brand).
