Hello everyone, I am hoping someone out there has been through something like my situation and offer some advice. So here is my story. I had my baby 6 months ago. At the time I had a bad epidural, basically I was told that I had some spinal fluid leaking which I then had to have a blood patch for. Since then i have had really bad headaches, which I am seing a neurologist for. The real issue and what i need help advice on is my back. I have severe backaches, the epidural sight feel very sore, and at times I get a pinching feeling on the side. I am wondering if I should see a chiroproctor or some other specialist. Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hey there,

I also had a bad epidural with my first child. I also had my spinal fluid puctured and was having the worst headaches you can possibly imagine everytime I sat up. You need to go back to the doctor, it sounds like the blood patch didn't work. Once I had the blood patch my headaches went right away. It sounds like they need to do it again. As far as the backaches, I did have aches for the first couple of weeks after my baby was born. My back looked like I had been in a war, it was so black and blue because the doctor could'nt find my epidural canal, he at least poked my about 8 times. At that point I told him to get off my back because my contractions were so strong that my daughter came out about 10 min later. When I wnt to try and stand up that was when I realized he got some of the epidural in my back. The whole left side of my body was numb. Needless to say my next two deliveries were natural.

Hope this helps :-)

Hi P..
I had the same situ. 5 months ago. I also had the blood patch. I have not had any huge headaches since then, but the backaches are horrible. I was thinking of going to a chiropractor as well once I stop breastfeeding. I do not know any other solutions. I'll let you know if I find sg.
Best of luck,
M.

Hi P.,
Sorry to hear you arent' feeling so well. The chiropractor I see is Dr. C. Curtis Howard at Colonial Chiropractic. It's on the corner of Riverside and Vineland in North Hollywood. I think the number is ###-###-#### but you can probably call 411. Also, a great acupuncturist who does a thorough evaluation is Dr. Catherine Aquino in toluca Lake. Her website is www.acquinotcm.com. Her office is located in the Toluca Lake Tennis Club. Good luck and I hope this helps:)

Hi P.,

Yes, I would definitely recommend seeing a chiropractor who knows these issues and can literally figure out who to lead you to feel better. I go to a very good chiropractor in the Studio City area. When I was pregnant for both of my girls, I went to see him regularly. They treat women, before, during and after pregnancy. Believe me, he has been a lifesaver. His name is Dr.Michael Pangelinan at Universal City Medical/Wellness Group. His number is ###-###-####. I wouldn't wait to see him. They also have an MD on staff in case you are feeling nervous. They are the best! Good luck!

Try to find a "Pain Management" specialist in your area. These are usually Anesthesiologists or Physical Medicine and Rehab specialists who did extra training in pain mangagement. Good luck.

Hi,
Many moons ago, I also had a spinal leak resulting from epidural removal. I had a blood patch two days after I was discharged from the hospital -- the headaches were so severe that every time that I was raised above horizontal I would vomit uncontrollably. I was taken to the ER with a bad case of dehydration and of course a whopping headache. But the blood patch stopped all of it almost immediately. I do remember that the site was sore for a while after the blood patch, but it wasn't bad, comparatively speaking, and by the six month mark it was essentially history. I never had a recurrence of the spinal headaches, nor did I experience any nerve pain. I have always had severe headaches, but they are related to scoliosis, not spinal fluid levels.

If you are having symptoms of nerve damage or pinched nerves I would recommend getting to a specialist asap. It may be a very simple fix, or it may be easily treatable. You deserve answers at the very least.

Hang in there!

:-)
