my son turned 10 months old yesterday and still has yet to sleep thru the night, it is driving me INSANE!! he wakes up 2-3 sometimes 4 times a night for a bottle, he eats lots of solids all day, i have even tried feeding him some cereal right before bed and still wont sleep! i am desperate for a good full nights rest so any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
EDIT: he eats at least 2 jars of baby food and sometimes some food off our plates and he drinks an 8oz bottle everytime and thats about 6 bottles just during the day plus the 2 or 3 at night!

What can I do next?

Some kids sleep through the night and some don't. Know this is probably not what you want to hear, but it is true. I have 3 kids, the youngest 2 this month and NONE of them slept through the night more than a handful of times before age 2. I'm still up at least 1 time a night with my 2 yr old so, yes, I understand your frustration. You are doing lots of great things to help him sleep, but he may not for a while. Teething keeps some babies up. you might try a dose of motrin/tylenol. Some just need comfort. So, please don't be tempted to let him cry, just go to him and take care of him. Some day he won't need you, but now he does. Someday he will sleep. I promise! My older 2 children are 3 and 6 and now sleep 11-12 hours straight every night. I've read a lot of books and tried a lot of things, but nothing worked until their little bodies and brains matured enough to sleep long periods of time. About 1/3 of all children under 5 still get up in the night at least 1 time. I read that in Elizabeth Pantley's No Cry Sleep Solutions. It is comfort to me to know that I'm not the ONLY one who hasn't had a full night sleep in years.... 3 1/2 + to be exact.

You probably aren't feeding enough food during the day. Here is a link from webmd.
http://www.webmd.com/parenting/baby/baby-development-10-m...
My doctor said this is a trusted site, along with Mayo Clinic. Also here is a link from another site.
http://www.babycenter.com/0_sample-baby-schedules-for-9-a...
This second link has a real schedule you can look at to see how it compares with what you're doing.
I might add that kids will learn to wake and get in your bed or get you up, to eat, to do all sorts of things if you agree to do it. My second child would wake like this and want a bottle and it got to be ridiculous. He didn't need the bottles, his urine got so bad with all the bottles at night that he got diaper rash ( we had cloth diapers at that time ) and I just cut them out finally and when he'd wake I went and told him to go back to sleep and he did after a few times of crying a bit. After you check the meals and see if he needs more to eat in the day you may have to just cut the bottles at night out. He won't need them if he's eating in the daytime.

1 word. Cosleeping. Get one of those sidecar type sleepers, a full size one is probably best at his age. He's probably not hungry every single time. He just needs some reassurance and to check in. With a cosleeper, you aren't getting out of bed and making a bottle or rocking him, you're waking up just enough to comfort him and put him back to sleep so you aren't losing as much rest as you would be actually getting up. My son was a pitiful sleeper and the only way I kept my sanity was to be able to reach over and pat him back down. He's 2.5 now and in his room for most of the night alone until he wakes up and climbs in bed with us. You get used to some sleep deprivation and the rest is seriously cut into by cosleeping.

Dr. Sears is an expert in this field and has some great advice. Maybe something he says will help you:

At that age, most kids won't ever sleep through the night.
Some kids do but MOST don't yet.
It will come but you have to get your rest @ other times throughout the day.
-Rest/sleep when they do.
-Let the housework go so you can focus on resting when he's asleep.

Their bellies are small and on top of that....he could be going through a growth spurt. No matter how much you feed him during the day....their tummies are little so they can't hold that much. What they do eat....they burn off so you have to get up during the night to feed them.
My son ate every 3 hours.
Just keep getting up during the night to feed him & change his diaper
Rest during the day
Sleep whenever you can.
Take it one day at a time.

My daughter nursed at 9:00 pm, 1:00 am, and 5:00 am every night at 10 months. At 11 months she dropped the 5:00 am feeding and at 13 months she dropped the 1:00 feeding. I don't think it is abnormal that your 10 month old needs to eat during the night. He is growing fast at this age. Can you go to bed earlier to get some more rest?

He's growing.
My son was like that... he had a GINORMOUS appetite, I nursed him on-demand day and night, and he grew like a weed/is healthy/is strong and lean.
Our Pediatrician said I was feeding him right.

Solids, is not as nutritionally dense, as breastmilk or Formula. So know that.
Feed him as he needs to.

Growth-spurt does things like this to a baby.

Just like adults, but 3 times worse, infants and toddlers will wake up due to thirst, hunger, dreams and bathroom... just because you as an adult can logically argue with yourself about staying in bed or taking yourself to the bathroom or kitchen, doesn't mean YOU are sleeping thru the night. Not to mention, mammals desire another person to share their sleeping arrangements, not just couples.

You poor thing!! Does he get a bottle EVERY TIME he wakes up?? How many ounces? It sounds like he just isn't satisfied! My little boy can really put away food, maybe you'd be surprised at how much yours can really eat if you keep serving him more when he finishes? Just a thought. Babycenter.com has a good guide to solid foods and about the amount of what your child should be eating daily. I am sure my son eats more than what is listed, lol. Mine is 15 months old by the way. Also, if your baby is crawling by now or even walking, some of those calories are really burned off like crazy. My son keeps eating more and more everyday and he is getting THINNER not wider! :) Good luck!

Babies aren't supposed to sleep through the night! HUGE misconception. Co-sleep. It'll make your life a whole lot easier.
