My little neighbor baby is still having problems with her tummy. Her mom has stopped her supplments, took the baby to a pediatrician, and put the baby on formula. She is better, but still frets a lot in the afternoon, spits up some and is constipated.
My question is "what can you do for a constipated 2 month only baby?

What can I do next?

Are her stools hard? That is the sign of constipation, not the frequency or infrequency. Also, make sure to use powdered formula if you are switching her to formula. The concentrate and ready-to-feed have a different consistency, making babies more prone to constipation. Try a little apple juice (1 ounce) every day. Also, you can insert a thermometer a 1/4 inch into the rectum and move it slightly. Try moving her legs in a bicycle motion. Above all, tell her to talk to her pedi about this more in depth.

My daughter had that problem as a baby. What worked best for us was white grape juice diluted with a little water.

Warm sugar water twice a day. Got my daughters bowels moving. Could also be the protein in her formula. Have mom try using Nestle good start. The protein is already broken down thus causing less constipation. There is a myth that all formulas cause constipation because they contain so much more iron unlike breast milk. This is untrue it is caused by the protein, and the difficult time babies have digesting it. Good luck I feel for her.....my baby cried every afternoon for 6 hours for 2 months straight before I figured out it was reflux!
