My son who just turned one has been eating everything and anything that we eat even before he had his teeth. But sometimes my husband and I don't eat lunch, and just make some for my three 1/2 year old son. But I would like to give my one year old some lunch too. What do you give a one year old for breakfast, lunch and dinner, instead of waffles, eggs and sausage, or rice and beans with chicken or meat????

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

I give my 17 mo daughter peas or corn with mozzarella and pre-cut fruit (apples, banana, grapes, etc).

Sometimes we have left over baked ziti, so I just re-heat a few pieces for her to eat. This is perfect, since she can just pick it up with her fingers.

Another one of her favorites is cheese quesadilla (melt cheese in between corn tortilla and cut in triangles) you can do this with wheat bread too.

When I really don't have time. I microwave a broccoli and chicken lean pocket and cut it into little pieces, and add some grapes for dessert.

Hope this helps…I'm not much of a cook

Hi there!
I too am a mom to a son, now 2 who would everything in sight if he could!

Here are my ideas for foods that don't require many teeth!

Breakfast: grits, applesauce, yogurt, oatmeal, rice crispies, smashed bananas, and diced peaches.

Lunch/Dinners: Anything you would eat for dinner, but just put it in the blender first! Sounds gross but my son ate everything we gave him, just smashed up in the blender!

Hope this helps,
Genia

breakfast:
I make oatmeal (old-fashioned oats in the microwave- more nutritious than the 'quick kind')with whole milk and frozen organic blueberries- you can put any fruit
play around with the amount of liquid to get a thick clumpy consistancy that a 12 month old can use his fingers with- I microwave it then put in the freezer for a few minutes to cool off-

scrambled egg with cheese

hashbrowns

yogurt

dry cereal- cheerios and rice crispies & frozen blueberries, also the gerber dried fruits, also fresh fruits like banana and pear, etc

lunch & dinner:
all kinds of ravioli
tortellini
pasta in olive oil or butter and i often add whole milk ricotta cheese to that as well as frozen chopped spinach- mix it all up

grilled cheese
beans
chicken
turkey/chicken sausage (cut up small)
cheese- organic- cut up nto small pieces
amy's mac n' cheese with frozen (organic) spinach mixed in

My daughter loves apples bits, avocados, and bananas. Also, there are AWESOME "super-food" smoothies ( Odwalla and Naked brand)available in the juice section of your grocer with everything in them from wheatgrass & broccoli to mango and apple juice. They're sweet, extremely nutritious, blended, babies love it!!! Not to mention they add a whole new dimension to diaper changing!

I know a lot of the doctors say it isnt a good idea because of choking...but if you give small bites and there arent too many allergy problems in your home, I give my daughter sandwiches...like pb and j or a turkey sandwich...she doesnt usually eat the bread but eats the other stuff. Also the food in the baby isle has these baby chicken dogs or turkey dogs..they are realy soft and i give them in little peices to my daughter. Hope this helps. By the way my daughter will be one tomorrow...so im kinda still new but it seems to work and she loves to feed herself...so it works.

Quick suggestions:
I give my DD low sodium deli-meat (usually turkey or roast beef) ripped up. She likes cheese sticks or chunks and a few of the Keebler cracker sticks.
Gerber pasta pick ups or you could buy frozen ravioli and cook a few at a time. I also buy frozen meatballs and halve or quarter them... she loves those.
She's always loved hot dogs, too. I buy the lower sodium or turkey dog versions, cut up small.
Any small chunks of canned fruit (peaches/apples/pears) would be good. (Watch sugar levels, you can buy no sugar added and the adult versions are cheaper than baby food.)
A lot of this you could also feed your 3+ year old.

Hi, I know it can be very hard and frustrating not knowing what to feed these kids, but I suggest you still give sausages cut it small bits, maybe scrambled eggs, or boiled banana crushed with a little butter, some toast perhaps, toast bread lightly so baby can chew easily, corn meal or oatmeal porridge, for lunch you can do baked beans, you can also try chef boyarde, make pasta with mince, it's always good to try and get kids to eat healthy, you can try carrots, string beans (boiled) mashed potato, mac and cheese, that can be spiced up , not with pepper, put a little onion finely chopped in, you can add sausages if you'd like.. for dinner you can still give rice, but be careful as it can choke the baby, I am single mom of an 8 year old and he's so healthy, those are the kind of food I use to give him, infact he's still getting a little of that sometimes, for dinner you can still give mashed potato and gravey with any kind of meat you chose, finely cut to pieces, chicken, beef, whateve you like.. oh, for lunch you can even give him soup, campbell's etc.. when you buy those can soup you can add additional things you like, or you can make home made soup, make sure the children get vitamins as well, that's important to the immune system and fighting against the flu virus.. hope I was of some help, just take it esay and enjoy your beautiful kids.. take care, all the best...D.

If you're not into cooking: chicken pot pie, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, vegetarian chicken nuggets, plantains/maduros, potstickers, mac n' cheese, French toast, cold cuts and cheese....bon appetit!
