I'm looking for a board certified, really good OB-GYN near Redwood Shores, CA. We're new to the area, and have moved a few times this summer, and I'm pregnant. I don't feel confident in the OB that I found in San Mateo. I'll most likely have another c-section this time around, because that's how the first baby ended up. Really need some good advice! Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

My doctor is Dr. Julianne O'Callahan and i think she's great. I just had my second baby this past March with her as my doctor. I had heard good things about her from a friend, so I decided to switch over to her before I got pregnant. She's in Redwood City.

Who you go with largely depends on your goals for this delivery. Do you want to deliver vaginally? If you do, you'll need to be up-front about your goals and find an OB who will consider a VBAC. If you don't mind a repeat C-section, then it's not as big an issue. If you're dead-set on not having another C-section (and you don't have to have one just because you did the first time) and can't find an OB who will consider it, you could always go the home birth route. There are many Bay Area midwives who will do HBAC (home birth after Cesarean).

If delivering in a hospital, if may not be completely necessary to find the one OB you're really comfortable with because your OB may not be on call when you go into labor :(

I like G B's answer :) A lot of your experience is what you make it, and it helps to be surrounded with the birth team who will facilitate what you want. Make sure you tour the maternity ward and talk to the nurses and midwives as well!

Dr. Stodgel is a fantastic obstetrician and gynecologist located in San Mateo. Very good listener and down to earth.

Drs. Shoup and Liu at Sequoia Hospital delivered my 2nd through 4th baby. What a fantastic experience- the entire thing- from appointments to birth experience to the hospital. They really set my mind at ease. Highly recommended!
