I am throwing my older sister a baby shower in mid March for her 4th child, 1st boy. The lady that did her last 2 baby showers did awesome, so I want this one to be just as good. I've never thrown one though, and I need some help. What kinds of games are popular? Where is the best place to buy supplies/invitations/food? What kinds of food is best? Help me!

What can I do next?

Our family is not big on games so when I recently threw my sister-in-law a baby shower I set up a table with pretty cards for everyone to write her a little note or piece of advice and bought her a little book to put them in

I filled a baby food jar with marshmallows and had them write down a guess as to how many were in the jar

I did one more where you take 4 small paper bags and label the bags with B-A-B-Y, one letter on each bag and then put one item in each bag that starts with the letter on the bag and they have to guess what is in the bag.

It was an easy way to not have games but have some little things to do as people came in and got food and sat down. then at the end while everyone was eating cake I gave out prizes to the winners.

I am getting ready to help with one and we are going to do a candy bar for a favor for the guests. I have a few pics of how it's suppose to look if you are interested. Another thing I always do is buy a blank book at Michaels and decorate it with scrapbooking stickers and call it Advice for the the Mom to Be! I put it on the gift table with a little sign in a picture frame that says please provide any advice or words of wisdom for the Mom to Be. All my friends have loved their books and say they look at it from time to time when they need help. One game that is popular is I am Famous Mom! Who am I. You can make this yourself. You say things like I am an older new mom and I am on many make up commerials.

Who am I? Answer Halle Berry

You can type this up on a sheet of paper and print in on a color of the shower.

I have some more games like word scramble and the snswers I can e-mail you.

Also make sure someone is there to take pics and write down gifts and the people who gave them so you sis can have a list for her thank you cards. When I do sjowers I try and stick to the theme. If the colors are pink I try to incororate that. My last friends was two peas in a pod so we had pea salad, lime green sherbet and sprite for punch, ranch dip with celery sticks, and sandwiches from Sam's.

As for invitations I did some on Vista Print but now you can make your own if you want by using Microsoft Publisher or make flyers on colored paper.

Best place for a cake, Sam's has the best price and they are so good! If you need anymore ideas let me know. I love to do party planning!

Have a great one!

As far as food goes, ask your sis! She knows what she is craving, and more importantly, what foods will make her nauseous just by sight. She can also offer input on theme, that will help you decide where/how to get supplies.
As far as games, it can depend on the number of guests, larger groups tend to do more "pencil & paper" kinds of games. But I LOVE to have unusual games, or classic games with a twist.
1. Buy tiny plastic babies, freeze them in ice cubes. Make sure everyone is served the cold drink of their choice at the same time. The first person (or several people, depending on # of guest) whose "water breaks" and births their plastic baby wins a prize.
2. Hand out paper, with A-Z down the side. The guests get a certain amount of time to come up with a name for each letter. For my shower we did one boy name & one girl for each letter (we didn't know what we were having), but you could just do boys. Whoever matched MY answer (not necessarily my favorite names, but I tried to keep it unusual) gets a point. I made sure that they were all legit names from a baby book.
3. Play up the "boy" part of it. Get the 3 or so main men in her life (husband, father, brother, etc) and find out their birth weight. Then have everyone try to guess. It helps if the guys are there, but you could show pictures, current &/or childhood. We did this at my sister's co-ed shower and for added fun we wrote the weights on balloons and had those specific guys wear the balloons under their shirts, and to reveal the answers, they pulled the balloon out.
Hope this helps!

I have gone to LOTS of baby showers and never played the 'Games'.

My Niece had a nice one a few weeks ago, it was in the late morning (10am) and they served breakfast quiches, hash browns and coffee cake. We did the deal where everyone wrote words of wisdom/things Moms wish they had known in a book for her... always fun!

Good Luck!

Lots of cute baby shower stuff (favors/invitations/decorations) on www.Etsy.com

Look at these adorable cookies (look through all 5 pages for some cute ones)!

For food, I usually see pasta salad or chicken salad croissant sandwiches, fruit veggie tray, chocolate fondue (melted chocolate) to dip fruit, rod pretzels and large marshmallows in.

I agree about the games, maybe one or two short ones are cute, but not necessary. The little words of advice is a good one.

One shower game that was kind of cute and not overdone from what I have seen, the host passed around about 10 jars of baby food with the labels peeled off. We couldn't taste or smell it, but we had to write down what flavor it was based on color. (which is difficult since a lot of baby foods are green/orange- sqaush, carrots, sweet potatoes...). just mark each lid with a number 1-10 (and be sure you have an answer sheet down to reveal the answers).
