Any ideas how to make bath time easier, quicker, less of a mess. I have a 2 and 4 year old. I prefer to give them a shower but the 2 year old isnt ready for that. He just screams. So i end up with both of them in the tub and then they never want to get out. I have to threaten, bribe, or just pull them out. With the hot weather here, im giving them a bath every day and its very time consuming and tiring. Any ideas to make this easier? Should i try to get the 2 yo used to the shower? I started showering my 4 year old when he was about 2 and it really was way easier than the bath.

What can I do next?

Try to plan something for after bath time that they would enjoy doing. Switch the focus from the actual bath to what is coming up after they bathe.
When my kids were younger, we often had "backwards night". This is especially helpful after a long summer day. We would first come in from playing and go straight into the tub. They would then put their pajamas on, eat dessert and then dinner. They thought it was so cool to eat dessert in their pjs before dinner.
We also went on "pajama walks" on nice evenings. After bathed and in pjs, my husband and I would put the kids in the stroller and go for a bedtime walk around the neighborhood. They would say goodnight to everything..."goodnight tree, goodnight street... ". It was so cute and a great way to wind down for bed.
A timer also works great. Set a timer and see how long it takes them to finish their bath. Then each night after, try to beat that time. It's scary how easy it is to get the kids to do stuff with just a timer!
One other thing I used to do is just pull the drain in the tub. I let my kids know that when the water is all gone, their bath is over. Sometimes I also put their towels in the dryer so they wanted to get out and wrap up in the warm, cozy towel.
Good luck!

I started putting less water in the tub and that helped with the mess. And like some others have said. We wash and then they get a little play time. When I pull the plug, they have until the water is gone to play. Some days when things aren't too hectic we play longer and some days they barely get any play time at all.

Set a timer and set it where they they can watch their time tick away. The plug gets pulled when the timer rings. No more water; no more bath!

You may have to tolerate a certain amount of splashing with two playful kids in the tub, so I'd be prepared with absorbent bath rugs and an old towel for othef surfaces, and don't make a big deal out of it. If you read requests about kids afraid of the bath, a little too much enthusiasm might seem easier to take.

How about having time in a wading pool on alternate days? Play time, freshening up in clean water, splashing stays outside! And when my daughter was that young, I would mostly hold her in the shower, and have the water flow on low. A hand-held shower option is wonderful, too, as you can very gently rinse heads.

I can't imagine how showering a 2 and 4 year old could be easier than a bath! LOL
And I can't imagine that they could get really clean unless I was in there with them! LOL

I wash right away then let him play til the water is drained then OUT.
They're 2 and 4, just lift them out.

Bathe them seperately. I have a sister and two brothers. My mother NEVER put us in the bath together. Put 'em together, it becomes play time.
I, like my mother, think its weird to bathe with another person...no matter how young. I think its also weird that people put brothers and sisters together....uh...weird-o-rama. Who wants to bathe in someone elses bathwater?
Its hot there? you have to bathe everyday? Well, I hope so. Even in the dead of winter my kid takes a bath everyday. Heck, I live in Texas...Gulf Coast to be exact. We all take baths/showers sometimes twice a day.
Get in, soap up, rinse off, get out....thats it.

My 4 year old hates water on his head / in his face so he has never showered. He loves to take tubbies. I let him bring toys in and we wash up, then he can play. I set a time limit and then give him a 10 minute - then 5 minute warning. Then I pull the plug (literally) - he can stay in until the water is gone then we get him out, dry off, etc. You can even use a timer so they know when time is up. That has worked for him since he was tiny.

Hey Mommyalways-

I found using a shower head on a hose helped so much, because I could control where the water went and make it fun.

I would tell the soapy kids, "Reach for the sky!" and they would respond with "NEVER!" and I would spray them with the water on their tummies. I would also let them play with the shower head, which make them like bath time.

I suggest, purchase a good liner and a lot of towels. Allowing splash time will aslo help kids enjoy the bath and get use to water in their face. I would put about 6 inches of water in the tub and when the water drained, the kids could splash.

I hope these suggestions help.

If the boys are playing in the yard at the end of the day, especially water play, bring a bottle of body wash outside and hose them off. I've done this with my 8, 6 and 2 1/2 year olds several times already this spring and it's a lilfe saver, plus they think it's fun!

If you have to go with the standard bath get them in the tub and do all of the washing first. Bring in an egg timer and set it for 10 minutes or whatever you're ok with and tell them when it beeps bathtime is over and it's time for (fill in the blank with whatever....snack, book, etc.)

Good luck,
K.

As soon as I'm done rinsing her off, I unplug the tub. She has until the water empties to play, and any splashing that gets water outside the tub results in immediate removal.

I got one of those adjustable shower heads then I just soap them up and wash them down quickly without having the shower pour all over their faces- quick and easy!

When my older kids were little, we put all 3 in the tub at the same time. 3 kids and 1 adult at home usually is pretty much the only way to get bathtime done. It did get to a point that they would not want to get out. I bought a kitchen timer specifically for the bath. I would put it at 10 or 15 minutes, depending on the day (and how hot it was for summer) and let them play. It took a few times but they did understand that once the timer dings, play time is over. I would wash them up, take out the plug and use a cup to do a final rinsing. then it was time to get out. With my little one now, yes it is sometimes so much easier to give a shower. I have a shower head with a hose attached. The first 2 times she did scream. I let her play with it so she understood what was happening and now have no problem giving her a "shower". Sometimes she will say no to getting out but once the toys and water is gone there is nothing to do so she is willing.
