I have insurance that I purchase privately because my husband and I are both self-employed, but the drug insurance part of it is really bad. You get $30 off prescriptions. Unfortunately, one of the prescription that my daughter takes off and on (not anywhere near a regular basis) is not covered at all because I was honest and put it down on the forms when filling them out. Anyway, my daughter was just prescribed Prevecid as an acid blocker. With my insurance, it's still $138. I guess there isn't a generic for it or it's not on the list that various pharamacies use to give you a discount. We also picked up one of the Collin County Drug Program cards that give you a 10% discount. So that brings it down to $125. Short of not filling the entire prescription, does anyone have any other suggestions on getting it cheaper? Her Imitrex prescription costs $1000, so I really need some good pharamceutical coverage.
We are self employed as well so I completely understand. Call the CostCo pharmacy and find out what they charge for the prescription. It's been my experience that they are a lot cheaper than anywhere else with or without a discount program. One of my RX's was $78 at Walmart, $107 at CVS and only $12 at CostCo.
Have you been to walgreens to discuss their prescription assistance. I lost my insurance and signed up with them and found that the discount was quite reasonable. Look into their program.
Sometimes the drug manufacturers will give assistance to those without coverage. It might be worth investigating that route.
I work at a drs office. We have several people that order online from Canada. Not sure what the prices are, but I know they have a LONG list of meds.
Also, try applying online at pparx.org. Basically, you enter all of your information and they tell you what programs you can apply for. Many of those are direct from the drug manufacturers. Also, the free medicine foundation may be able to help. Granted, it is not always free, but we had a patient that took 3 rxs every month, each were 75.00. Throught their program she paid 75.00 for a 3 month supply and that included all 3 rxs! Good luck! Hope this helps!

Both Sam's and Costco and SO MUCH (unbelievably) cheaper than even Wal-Mart, or any other pharmacy. Call and do price checks at both places, if you don't have a membership card to either. It will be worth the yearly fee of $45 or so just for the RX's!
Also, I'm assuming your daughter is taking Imitrex for migraines. If so, has the doctor mentioned Topamax? It's fairly new and preventative. I haven't had a migraine since I started taking it 1.5 yrs ago! I got it once without my insurance at Costco and it was something like $110 compared to around $300 at CVS, if I remember correctly.
Anyway, RX's are ridiculously high, and it is worth it to "shop around"! I think you will be delighted at the differences in prices you will find at Costco and Sam's Club.... :)

Over the years, I have taken about every acid blocker on the market. I know that they fall into categories as to how they block the acid, but you may want to ask your healthcare provider if he/she will prescribe a drug similar to Previcid that has a generic equivalent. I'm currently taking generic Prilosec & get as much benefit from it as I did from Previcid. Most healthcare providers understand that prescription drugs can be unaffordable & will try to give you a work-around solution. Good luck!

We were self employeed for many years, health care was such a problem. I feel your pain. I bought many of our meds from
canadapharmacy.com - I still get some there as they are cheaper even w/insurance prices. 90 generic prevacid there is about $100. They also have the Imitrex. You can pay a one time fee, i think its $50, for lifetime shipping. Now everytime I buy, I don't get charged any shipping fees. I can even get our dogs flea/heartworm meds there.
I would also ask your doctor for samples from your doctor.

Sorry I can't help you with the meds mentioned, but Market Street is currently giving away certain antibiotics with a doctor's prescription. You can contact them for the specifics, but I know Amoxicil, Penicillin, Ceflex are among the ones on the list.
