Hi all, I have two girls and have no idea what to get for my 9 yr old. The only things I know she wants are a skateboard, a pair of converse, and purple skinny jeans all of which I've already gotten. Other than that, I have no idea what else to get her. I've looked and looked and just don't see anything. Does anyone have any ideas? Oh, she also wanted a cupcake maker, but someone else is getting her that. I also don't know what to tell other people to get her.

Edit...
She has a gameboy, a nintendo ds, and playstation and never plays any of them. We really don't have much time for video games during the school year because we have a lot of after school activities such as gymnastics. She loves justice, but I want to get her something else besides clothes.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for the great ideas. I've decided to get her a karaoke machine. I think she'll really enjoy it and put it to great use with her many sleepovers.

She sounds like my 9 year old (though mine has not gotten into the clothes specifically yet:) One thing I am doing is getting her hair and face care products. Maybe even in a little caboodle type thing..do you remember those:)?! She is getting some face wash cloths, lotion, deodorant, bath stuff (that makes her feel older) and the book "The Care and Keeping of You." I might even go as far as getting her her own hair dryer etc. Oh, and I did order her a terry cloth bathrobe that she can use after her shower. She is my oldest, and I think its time to make the switch from little girl to big girl at my house. Also, try some board games, ds games if she has one, or an mp3 player. My 9 year old is also into arts and crafts, so any of those kits are fun for her. I know it is a hard age to shop for, good luck!! ~A.~

I have 8 yr old twin girls. They are going to get a cool jewelry box with a few peace sign and bottle cap necklaces. They also want an American Girl Doll (they are starting a collection)with matching girl and doll clothes. Also, chapter books are big around here. I thought about some of the classics like Pollyanna, Huckleberry Finn, Around the World in 80 Days etc...we saw them at Barnes and Noble yesterday.

Hi,
I have a 7 year old girl, and she is dying for some of my Bella Bead jewelry. It is Italian beads (similar to Troll) that you build your own bracelet or necklace, but for the younger girls, I have leather necklaces and bracelets where they can get 1 bead at a time. The beads are Murano crystal from Italy, brand new in the U.S., and they have a sterling silver core. The beads run $15, so they whole necklace or bracelet would be less than $20. I plan on putting one in my daughter's stocking. The neat thing is, I can give her more colorful beads to add on in the future to wear with her different colored outfits. Each bead has a name and a meaning, so it is a really neat gift. This gift makes her feel like a big girl, without costing me an arm and a leg. Please let me know if you are interested in checking it out. I can send you the online catalog, or my website should be up soon.

I love the books and magazine subscription already mentioned. And my 8yo loves her American Girl Doll and all the accessories.

I also love getting people "experiences." Give her a certificate for something special like Build a Bear, Paint your own pottery, a pedicure (with mom), horseback riding outing, etc.

Good luck!

What about a gift certificate to one of those girl salons--like Sweet and Sassy. She can get her hair fixed and a manicure and pedicure. It could be lots of fun if she gets to bring a friend or go with you. They tend to quit playing with their toys, but they seem to always remember their experiences.

How about mixes and other things to go with the cupcake maker? I don't think they is any reason to get her anything more. As far as other family - suggest a day spend with her. Taking her places she likes to go - movies, out to eat, etc.

Check out Hot Topic at the mall. She sounds a lot like my kids and you can get them things there that will allow their "uniquness" to show! :) (Jewelery etc.)

Try www.allposters.com for some, well, posters. Also, get some funky hair stuff from WalMart.

Also, itunes gift card, ipod (if she doesn't already have one) a cool purse, etc. etc. etc.

How about a magazine subscription? My daughter loved American Girl magazine at that age, even though she never had the dolls. And Michael's just came out with an American Girl line of crafts that she loves also.

I did not read the responses so I;m sorry if I repeat myself. My 8 yr old had one thing on her list and that was an ipod nano. The run about about $140. If your looking for something cheaper they also make an ipod shuffle that is about $50. The difference is the shuffle just plays the songs it wants to and the nano lets you pick what song you want. The new nano also has video and fm radio that you can pause and rewind live.

Then you can tell other ti get your child itunes gift cards. This is what I have done and the family is enjoying not having to go shop.

Books make amazing gifts; they stimulate the imagination and provide skills that last a lifetime. Perhaps a collection of great books, some music, and other creative presents would be appreciated?

I feel your pain. I also have a 9 year old that only wants clothes! She is getting a new bike (she's outgrown her old one), clothes, converse, gift cards to get her nails done, and music (cd's and maybe a gift card for downloads). Other things that a 9 year old might like are nail polish, I actually do embroidery and have given girls a towel embroidered with their name and a bottle of nail polish with a sweet poem about how the towel makes it a safe place to paint thier nails along with a few nail polishes. What about books, CD's, CD holder, purses, scarves, earrings (that's a big one on my daughter's list) jewlery box or some way to keep her jewelry safe? Also think movies she might like, or games the whole family can play. We have/like Scene it, Cadoo, Connect 4, and UNO. For Christmas they are getting Pictureka, Guesstures, and maybe Clue Spy's.

There is a nail polish machine that you can upload pictures to it and then have it painted on your nails. It's a barbie thing and Toys R us has it. My daughter is getting it from grandparents b/c it's pricey!

Good luck!

My nine year old loves the American Girl dolls and store. Each doll comes with a book about the character. If you don't want to spend that much money, there are smaller versions of the dolls available. Your younger daughter will play with them when she gets older too.

Does she like jewelry? Get her a jewelry making kit. Scrapbooking is fun too.

Hope this helps.

Does she have an iPod? It seems like around 9 or 10 is when kids begin to take more interest in popular music. They have inexpensive iPod Shuffle for about $50 all the way up to the iPod Touch for about $200. My boys, age 10 and 14, have loved their iPod Touch. It is exactly like an iPhone, but without the phone capabilities. My 14 year old has had a phone since he was in middle school, around age 12, but it seems kids are getting their own phones earlier now. My 10 year old has asked for a phone for Christmas, because he is the only one of his friends that don't have one. I am not sure we will get one, because I don't think he really needs one yet. They have the GO phone type things that you don't have to sign a contract, just pay for a certain amount of minutes.

If she likes to shop for clothes, I would get her a gift card to Justice and a "day with mom" to use it. You could take her shopping, to lunch, etc. It's those little things (like time spent together doing something special) that say, "I love you" louder than your voice.

I've been stumped on what to get my oldest (a son) as well, though. It's hard!

does she have a digital camera or recorder? There are models out there at reasonable priced. If she gets into either, she can make scrapbooks (others can buy supplies) or her own videos.
craft kits are have been a hit with this age
is it time to update her room decor?
some quick ideas - good luck!

We gave our daughter an ipod and she just loves. Better then the DS or the playstation. If she is into art you could buy her supplies and if she like dolls the new Moxi Girls are cool. Otherwise I would buy her clothes and gift cards to target.

My daughter is 8 and she LOVES just about anything from Libby Lu's. They have lots of neat little girls things, from trinkets, jewelry, toys, stuffed animals, clothes, kiddie makeup (mostly flavored glosses and clear or glittery things). There's some free Kid Magazines around in stores and offices that usually have coupons too. I'm about to use one for 20% off my whole purchase up there which is great.

My kiddos are younger than yours, but personally, when I was 9, I would have loved a giftcard to pick out my own clothes. She could have some "mom time" like another poster suggested. Tell her the GC is for her to pick out something to go with her new purple skinny jeans. Maybe a GC to Claire's for matching accessories too.

Does she have a DS? If so get her a Gamestop card so she can pick out a game. My daughter is 6 but prefers to pick out her own stuff so I get her cards a lot (nothing on the card cause I wind up paying with my debit) but she has fun choosing what she wants.

For what you wrote your daughter seems to have a little of the rock edge in her. My daughter is like that she loves justice! And their converse, skinny jeans and neons! Does she have her ears peirced? Get her some cool matching earrings from justice.

My daughter is really into chapter books. Does she have a favorite author or an author you would like for her to start reading? Her own personal pre-teen Bible with her name on it. My 8 year old asked for gold hoop earrings and high heels. I found some cute Mary Jane shoes with a small heel on JC Penneys website. My girls also love to play board games. They also love art, drawing, painting, etc.; but mostly they love Mommy time. Someone made a good suggestion about a homemade gift card with a special place/activity for just the 2 of you. Good luck.
