So, I'm going on a "girls night out" ( haven't been out for something like this since 99', yes you saw correct, 1999, ) . I have no idea what to wear. I want to look nice / cute but I can't have fun unless I'm comfortable. I never have had to dress well. The two jobs have had I could wear jeans & T's & other job, comfy O.R. scrubs. So I'm not the best when it comes to dressing. I was thinking I could wear leggens w/ a cute long sweater & blingy belt & cute boots but is that too casual?I don't want to go to far from my comfort zone but I want to dress up more than what I normally would. Some specifics that may help... My normal " style" is Eddie Bauer type stuff . I'm 33. I'm petite & overweight but well proportioned . We are going to a nice dinner & bars after. Any help would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I can't have fun unless I'm comfortable, either. At my age (48) I'm so beyond being uncomfortable just to look 'fashionable'. You can definitely wear leggings with a tunic and cute boots (preferably flat or low-heeled). Whether or not it's too casual depends on the sweater/tunic, how you dress it up (belt, jewelry, scarf, etc.) and exactly where you are going. You could also wear 'dressy' jeans (dark wash) or soft/comfy dress pants with comfortable heels or boots and a blouse & jacket or sweater combo. (Now I see you're in AZ, so maybe no jacket or sweater over the blouse.) Sometimes it's not exactly what you wear, but how you wear it that matters most. Let your personal style come through, and chances are you will feel most comfortable. Whenever I feel clueless as to what I should wear, I look at websites or catalogs for ideas; then I tear through my wardrobe looking for similar items. Sounds like I'm a casual girl like you. My normal 'style' is Lucky Jeans & Boden type stuff, but sometimes I can dress my own favorite stuff up by accessorizing. Good luck! Have fun!

If you ever watch Clinton and Stacy on What Not to Wear, they often choose cute wrap style dresses with sexy heels for the "going out" outfits for the show's participants...the waist line is usually under the bust to make the figure the most flattering esp for the plus sized ladies. It's hard to say what would be just right for you because I don't know of the atmosphere of the places you are visiting. There is a lot of difference between "biker bars" and upscale clubs LOL have fun on your GNO :-)

Depends on the kind of bars your headed to, and what the general night scene is like where you live. (for example, I was out last night in DC in a short dress and heals... but in Sacramento, I would have worn tight jeans and a cute top to the same kind of event) If it's a club, they'll have a dress code, but if it's just a bar, you're probably fine in anything.

I think leggings and a long sweater with jewelery, make up and cute shoes sounds perfect for dinner and drinks with the girls almost anywhere. You won't end up feeling overdressed if dressing up isn't needed, but you'll be cute enough to fit in to most scenes.
