I don't have O., but what about running the water/jets for awhile before you put the stopper in? Just a thought.
Well I certainly learned my lesson the hard way. I always wanted a jacuzzi tub so my husband got one for me before we were even married during a bathroom remodel. Well...never again. What a pain to clean!! I used it often in the past but now refuse b/c whenever you turn the jets on the tub gets filled with black stuff. My son take a bath in this tub (obviously with no jets) and that's about it these days. We use a toothbrush to clean out the jets as best we can. We have run bleach through it. But nothing gets rid of all the black stuff that comes out! It's gross. So...any suggestions on how to get the insides clean so I can enjoy a much needed soak...with jets!? Thanks for any suggestions Mamas:)
Thank you! Amazing. I took advice from different posts. We did one cycle of hot water and vinegar. We drained it and did a second cycle of hot water and dishwasher detergent and a final cycle of clear cold water. IT WORKED!!! I'm so excited!!! I haven't used my jets in almost a year b/c of this yucky stuff. I'm so happy to have an easy household solution. Thanks Moms!

When i worked at the hotel they said you could buy stuff(i think from a pool place)to clean out the jets. The one at work i run cold water with the jets on for about 30mins to get it cleaned out......i think someone said you could use vinager(sp)too.......I found this for you guys.........
once every three months, purge and clean the circulating system. fill whirlpool with warm water and add two teaspoons of powdered dishwasher (not laundry) detergent and one half cup of household bleach to filled whirlpool. Activate whirlpool system in accordance with operating instructions for two minutes. Drain and refill whirlpool with cold water. Circulate for five minutes. Drain whirlpool completely when finished.
...Pay particular attention to the manufacturer's maintenance procedures for cleaning the whirlpool tub's circulation system. Failure to do so can result in the growth and transmission of infectious bacteria. Bath water residue contains soap scum, dirt, bath oils, body secretions, and skin cells. With each use of the whirlpool tub these organic materials mix with mineral deposits in the water to form scale deposits. The warm humid environment that the whirlpool’s plumbing provides is the ideal place for microorganisms to grow. They can cause many different ailments (ie. kidney, bladder, skin, vaginal, eye and respiratory infections, just to name a few).
However if you still have the owners manual make sure it doesnt recommend something else or you could call the manifacture and request cleaning instructions but that is how I was told to maintain ours and it seems to work. As for the TUB itself any cleaner you normally use on a regular tub should work
This is what I do every few months and it works for me. I fill it above the jets with the hottest water I can. Then I add 1 cup of dishwasher detergent (I always have liquid on hand but I don't think it matters). I run the jets on high for 15 minutes then drain it. After a short break (or as long as it takes for the jet motors to cool a little and your hot water tank - if you have one - to refill) I fill it up again with really hot water and add a cup of bleach and repeat the cycle. Then drain it, fill it with cold water and run the jets some to clear out all the cleaning solutions and drain and hopefully everything will be clear. Once you get it all cleared out, you may only have to run the cleaning cycles for 10 minutes next time. I've also read that after the occasional bath just add some vinegar to the bath water and run the jets for a little for between cleaning maintenance. Hope it works!
Hi,
They have products that you can buy like:
http://www.uniquesolutionsusa.com/index.php?crn=206&r...
(if you do an internet search their are other similar products on the market)
that are specifically formulated to deal with organic waste build up that you get in a jetted tub. I did alot of research on this for the same reason as you. The different suggestions I have read were to:
-use a liquid(not powder) dishwasher product like cascade
or
- use a diluted bleach solution
or
-use a vinager solution
The problem with these is that one person said it worked fine for them and the next said it did nothing. Also on some how to sites they do not reccommend using bleach because it will dry out the fittings.
The source of the problem is that there are tubes under your tub that are not draining so the organic waste and water get stuck in there and it is a breeding ground for not good stuff. There are things that you can do to try and fix that problem but that usualy involves some major work getting under the tub etc (not a way for me to go)
I have also read that once you get the water clear, you should make sure you are running the jets atleast on a weekly basis when you clean the tub. I really like 7th Generation tub and tile cleaner for general tub cleaning and it realy seems to do a good job keeping the area around the jets clean.
Good Luck!
Hello! We used to have a jacuzzi tub and had the same problem! Our realtor told us to run simple white vinegar (about half the bottle diluted in the water of course) for two cycles, then a clean water cycle! It's a bit of a waste of water, but it worked for us. Jacuzzi tubs are great, but if you don't uses the jets frequently it's a real pain! Sorry.
I am not sure about a Jacuzzi tub but in a jet tub for a pedicure the way to sterilize it at the end of the day is to run a dishwasher tablet through the jets for a 1/2 hour. You may also want to contact the tub manufacturer and see what they reccommend.
good luck
I'ms.
Hi Ali,
I sympathize. We bought a house with a jacuzzi and tried about 100 cleaning products. Finally my husband called Jacuzzi (got the no. from the web) and ordered a product you can pour into the water after your bath and it cleans the jets. Good luck, Patty
This YouTube video compared a jetted tub cleaner, Oh Yuk to bleach and dishwasher detergent. As you can see in this video, Oh Yuk is considerably more effective than bleach and dishwashing detergent.
Hi Ali,
Call your local plumber.
Good luck. D.
