Help! Our two dogs (a golden retriever and a mini pin) have had fleas for two weeks now! Im spraying the yard and they are getting baths again in the morning and then im spraying the house all over. I really do not want to fog the house due to my daughters medical issues and needing to stay home not going elsewhere. We have tried the collars, spraying the yard once already, having them taken to the groomers to be dipped etc, oh and the drops down their backs. We need the fleas gone asap they are biting me.
Any ideas to get this fixed soon, and to get them to not be biting me?
We also have two inside cats and one cat that stays outside never comes in the house.

What can I do next?

Banana peels...I know it sounds crazy, I thought it was but tried it and it worked. We put them along the fence line, and they biodegrate anyway. But its cheap, and it worked for us!! Its worth a try!! Good Luck

I had the problem one time. I had tried just about everything and finally settled for the bombs. I didn't want to use them at first because I had 2 babies in the house. I used 4 of the Hot Shot brand bombs. I followed the directions and used it wisely. I also treated my dog with Frontline at the same time, my friend had an extra dose that he let me have. I did all this in the morning and by the afternoon the entire problem was over with. I've always kept an extra dose of Frontline just in case we ever have the problem again, you're welcomed to it if you want it.

Hi E.,

You say you used the drops on the skin BUT are you using over the counter or the ones from the vet clinic?
I can promise you the ONLY thing that has EVER worked for us when we had severe cases of fleas on our dogs was Advantage (sold at the Vet clinics). They have so many now at the vet but I can 100% guarantee that stuff works. My poor dog was at the point that she was losing hair from itching so bad and the fleas were getting on our furniture. I did NOTHING else but use Advantage and they were gone in no more than 2 days, including the ones around the house. They will die in your home if there's no animal to bite on so as long as you use the Advantage, you should be good.
Also, it works so good we only have to do a treatment usually once a summer when the fleas are bad....and the ones that you can buy over the counter are a BIG waste of money. I've tried them all and they never work like the Advantage.
BTW, we didn't do anything to our yard either!
Good luck to you, I know those fleas are a pain in the a$$!

Hey E.,
We had this problem once upon a time with our cat and our house was severely infested. We took the cat to the vet and they prescribed her a flea solution that you apply to the neck. It kills all the living fleas and prevents eggs from hatching and lasts for about three months as I recall. I forget the name, but it was extremely effective, and we were so infested that the fleas were attacking our legs when we walked. The vet will know what you're talking about.
Sincerely, J.

You need to call your Vet. and get a prescription flea medication for the dogs. Once they have been your your flea problem will subdue. Also spray the yard and they will soon die off in the house once they cannot live on your pets. My husband is a Vet. and I think he once told me there was something you could buy for the carpet. Call your Vet. they can tell you exactly what to do.

We live on a heavily wooded lot with lots of wildlife fleas and ticks with 3 dogs.

We have never had a flea or tick problem.

WE DO NOT TREAT OUR YARD SPECIFICALLY FOR FLEAS. We have copperhead snakes, frogs lizards and other things we need to keep out of our yard. IF You are ONLY treating fleas, you might not need to be a proactive in your approach as we are with our yard.

As some people said, YES the Advantage and specific flea control can help you.

My post was to inform on what we do to keep EVERYTHING out of our yard.

We do bomb the house about every 3-4 months (about $100 for 35 of the little cans to make sure I am covered throughout my house, attic, garage). We load up the SUV with water, treats and head out for 3 hours. We go on dog walks, picnic, drive whatever to keep busy. We usually end up back home in about 2-2 1/2 hrs and stay outside. We have out laptops, the dogs have a fun day and it is all over in about 3 hrs. We stay outside longer while the house airs out.

After this, My DH goes around the perimeter of the foundation of the house with special spray (about $30) THEN goes throughout the yard with the bug control (about $75 worth). We do have a large area to cover (about 1/2 acre) and 4000+ sq ft house.

Yes, It is a pain in the rear but we have no isses with bugs. fleas or ticks. It also helps keep snakes away!! We have copperheads, YIKES!!!

We had a little outbreak at the beginning of the summer. The only products that worked for us were: Frontline (for our dog, and Ortho Home Defense Max for spraying. It seems as though the other "spot on" meds for dogs didn't do anything at all, the collars don't help for us either. We put a different "spot on" treatment on the cats but since they are inside cats once we got the problem taken care of with the dog & the carpet then their treatment seemed more effective. We sprayed the yard & the entire house with the Ortho. Nothing else would work for us but these did great & we haven't had a problem since. Good luck... I know what a pain it cn be!

We had a flea problem a couple months ago. We live in a duplex and it was actually coming from our neighbors' house because we had no animals in the house at the time.

They were really bad and I had to leave for a week. We had someone come out and spray our house, our neighbors house, and the yard. They used something that was very safe and it got rid of the fleas in a day. Then we put a flea collar in the vacume bag and vacumed everday incase there were any fleas that were still alive.

Before we called the exterminator we used home products and did everything we could think of and they just weren't going away. I would reccomend calling someone to come out there and make sure they spray your yard and your home.

You don't need to spray or bomb your house, not for fleas.

Treat the animals, put the flea medicine on their necks and most fleas will go to them and die and you can treat the yard if you want, but, not your house. Fleas will pick them over you first. Any that get on you, flush down the toilet.

Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum. That is the best way to get rid of them and their eggs. Same thing for spiders btw. Throw the bag outside in the trash or empty the container outside into a bag in the trash and tie it closed. I have seen it recommended to put a flea collar in the bag or bagless cup but I have never had to do that.

Wash what you can and vacuum everything else.
Vacuum every day until they are gone.

I saw on HGTV to pour salt on the carpet then vaccum, every day. Haven't tried it, but they promised it works. We also started keeping flea collars on our pets during the summer/fall seasons and it seems to help. It's just a huge pain that you have to deal with on a daily basis til it's gone. Regular baths, and vaccuming everyday is the best thing. If your vaccum has a bag, throw out the bag after you vaccum each time. If it's bagless, clean it out after using.

Hi E.-

I've always used Adams spray. You can get it any pet store or feed store. You spray it in the dog and can use it on pet bedding and furniture and the baseboards in the house. It has always worked very well for us! good luck- I know it's a pain!
