I am a mom of a family of 5- all being boys/men and our grocery bill is OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!
I usually spend between $170-200 a week in groceries! We recently moved from Indiana to closer to the Chicago area and the cost of living here just blows me away! I used to spend between $100-125 in groceries and now it is consistently about $175 a week in groceries! My family of boys go through 4 gallons of milk a week-sometimes 5- which I hate to cut that out as milk is so good for you- but I honestly don't know what TO cut out- I buy a bag of frozen chicken a week (which for us ends up being 2 maybe three meals) and then 2 pounds of hamburger (which is what we need for one meal basically)- and I try to make pasta at least once a week. None of the stores around me take ANY coupons off of the internet- so that really hurts! Any suggestions?????

What can I do next?

M.,

I could have written this email. I live in the greater Rockford area,IL And, yes, grocery shopping is awful. I, too, have 3 growing boys, and a hubby. I am scared to death of when they become teenagers. LOL My bill is very similar and that is the amount of milk that we go through as well. I wish that I had some advice for you, but I don't. It is just nice to know that I am not the only one.

If you get any good advice, PLEASE send it my way. Thanks.

K.

I love Kraft Food and Family magazine. It's free and it is packed with family friendly recipies! Here's a link to a section they have that is 5 meals in one grocery bag. Maybe that would help you with your grocery bill? I love it for the effortless meal planning it offers! Good luck to you! http://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/Dinner/1Bag5Dinners/?smid=10...

Have you tried ALDI? you can get most of your groceries there at half the price of regular grocery stores. It's all generic brands but most of it you can't tell the difference. I shop for my family of 3 and spend about $115 for 2 weeks. I don't know where exactly you live but you can check their website to find the nearest location.
