Need Help Finding a Good Music and Movement Class for My 17 Months Old

Hi moms,

I am looking for a music class for my daughter that also focuses on movements/dances as well. I have noticed that they do not offer dance classes for her age and she would need to wait until she is 2 or 3 years old. She loves to dance and I would love to get her into a good school. I am not sure if places like Kindermusik is more just music or it includes movements as well.
I would love some recommendations. I live just north of Arboretum so if it's NorthWest Austin, that would be even better.

Thanks all!

Hailey

I third the recommendation for Heartsong. I also enjoyed the Mommy & Me class that was taught at Austin Rec Center and at Round Rock Rec taught by Miss Renee. She was fabulous with the kids. Gook luck and Congratulations on baby #3 - I hope you and John are doing well.

I highly recommend Heartsong Music--www.heartsongmusictogether.com. They are on Anderson right behind the Fuddruckers (near Alamo Village). We take classes with Michelle and she is awesome. It is singing, music, dancing, movement, you name it! Carey Youngblood is the owner and I've heard her classes are good too. Check out their website. They begin registration for fall classes in the beginning of August, I think.

Kindermusik, does incorporate movement and classes are really fun for the little folks. Though not Kindermusik, Roger Chenu, offers a Music for the Young Child (he has a variety of classes for different ages, if you tell him your child's age he'll give you information on the correct class.) He is near Zilker Park so more centrally located. Classes were very similar to Kindermusik. For example, dancing with scarves, using instruments circle dances, etc. are part of the classes. He transitions kids into keyboard as they get older, 3,4,5, and is truly a gifted pianist...somehow the children return all they are taught and I'm amazed at the ability of the children I've had in classes. If you go to him, please tell him I sent you, thanks!

Hi,

My 3-year-old daughter and her soon to be 3-year-old friend are really enjoying the Saturday morning dance/gymnastics class they take at the Austin Recreation Center (Balcones Drive, right at 2222). They also do some music stuff with little instruments. It's through Dance Associates and the class is for 24 months and up. It's a small group, eight or nine girls. It's $50/month.

The number for Dance Associates is ###-###-####. They've got a bunch of programs around town.

Take care,
J.

We did Gymboree with my oldest son and as soon as our second is old enough we will do it with him as well. It's not only music and dance but they incorporate that into each class. They have circle time and then free play and then back to the circle for more music, movement, bubbles and parachute. My son highly enjoyed it. I started him at 6 months.
