Hello,
I can recommend a couple of areas, but it will depend on your budget. I was born and have lived here all of my live so I'm very familiar with South Florida. If you give me details I can suggest some places. Also, my mom is a realtor so if your looking for one, there you go.

ps. I'm in Miami Lakes too - I agree with the other post, it's a great area!!! However, I grew up down south and Pinecrest and South Miami are awesome too.

Hello L.,
Just my opinion, but I think it depends on where you will work. We moved to Miami a year ago from Japan and had no idea what we were getting into, but we are very happy where we live. My husband works in Doral so we decided to live here. I think Doral has everything you need from great neighborhoods and schools, 2 malls and everything very close, groceries, gas stations, post office, many restaurants...everything. We were considering Mirimar and Pembroke Pines to live, both very nice towns with nice size houses with great neighborhoods, but it was a little bit of a drive which is a lot worse with traffic. Traffic is quite bad here, and that's why I think it really depends on where you work. The saying is "Live east and work west." Good luck.

Hi... so did you move yet??? I hope I am not too late... I personally love Doral. THere is absolutely everything you might need nearby. Schools are all A++ rated and the comunity is young so you will find a lot of mommies in oyur shoes. Additionally everything is 10 to 20 minutes away. Airport is only 10 minutes away which is awesome if you are going to have friends and family visiting. Miami Beach is 20 minutes away. There is enough to do here so you won't be bored. I personally belong to 2 mommies clubs here in the area in the meetup.com website... here are the links if you are interested if not you can look up the area you are in and more than likely ther is a club there> http://sahm.meetup.com/1664/ the other Doral club is http://playgroup.meetup.com/548/
I would be happy to help if you need any. I also have a 5 year old . Additionally i have a 2 year old and an 8 month old so we ae almost on the same boat. Just email me and I would be happy to "introduce" you to the area.
Also about Key Biscayne. I love the area. It is beautiful but the beach excitement wears off as soon as a hurricane or a storm comes toward the area. It always evacuates and going to a shelter with kids is no fun... Doral is inland so the risk of evacuation is minimal... it does flood a bit though but so does the rest of Miami. Also Keybiscayne is for staying there period. HTere is one way in and one way out of the island so traffic can get hectc. GOOD LUCK !!! Keep the site posted and let us knoe what you did!

Whatever you do, live close to your or your husband's job. Traffic here is a nightmare; and the more you have to drive (the longer your commute), the more stressed out you will be.

Also, you might not want to buy a house until you find the area you're most comfortable in and/or is most convenient and desirable to you. However, if you decide to jump right in and buy a house, know this: the real estate market is sinking fast here. Many homes are overpriced, sales are flat and there's a glut of inventory. So you have the upper hand - negotiate.

Depends where you or your husband will be working. Traffic can be horrible if you move to the wrong area. E-mail me directly and I can try to help. ____@____.com
