I need to find a general doctor. I need recomendations. I prefer a woman doctor that has been in practice for a while, not new. That has actually works with you to get you some real answers. I prefer a friendly and caring individual. I also need any suggestions on getting a doctor for back pain. I have stiffness in the morning and I crack my neck, and my back all the time. I take motrin all the time just to function. I have had bad back pain for a long time and has gotten worse. I tried calling a orthepedic specialist and they asked me several questions and they did not get back to me. I do not know what kind of doctor I need to go to. So if anyone out there has had back problems and have found a doctor that has actually helped. Or any suggestions on what to do, please let me know. I am not able to stand or walk for more than an hour. I cannot be my best if this continues. Please help!

What can I do next?

I am a physical therapist and have worked with a lot of doctors and their patients. For a general doctor I like and go to Catherine Baker, MD in Lemont. Her number is ###-###-####. She is very thorough and will take time listening and researching any problem you may have. There is also Jean Garbolski and her assocoates in Homer Glen at the Silver Cross building close to 143rd and Bell Rd.

For back pain I strongly suggest orthopedics over chiropractors. I've seen too many people where the chiropractor visit went wrong. It's my bias, I know many people who see them successfully. Just watch out for any who want to treat you without some endpoint in mind or are wanting to sell you on a lifetime package of adjustments for thousands of dollars, or those who can cure everything that ails you and your family. I know many people buy into this, I just will tellyou to beware and do your research first.

A great orthopedic is Steven Bardfield, MD at Hinsdale Orthopedics. He is not a surgeon, so will push that as a first option as many others I have know do. He is a big believer in therapy and is fantastic if you needed injections or anything. I would also suggest physical therapy for the back. I'm not in outpatient anymore, but there are many clinics all over. I can help you find one if you are looking for any recommendations.

I second your strong faith in the Lord and am proud that you put that info out there so strongly!

Good luck and let me know if you want any further info.

I would suggest a chiropractor. I was having awful back pain. My husband finally convinced me to see a chiropractor. He was awesome! I got relief from the pain quickly and I just finished 3 months of therapy to get everything back into alignment and have no more back issues. Good luck!

I could refer you to Hinsdale orthopaedics, with a location in New Lenox. Dr Marie Kirincic is a pain specialist and will review your condition and make recommendations. She is wonderful! However, if you are able to go to your own general physician, they can write you a script for an MRI so that you can really determine what is going on, before you even consider a chiropractor. Your dr. can also write you a scrip for Physical Therapy. This differs from chiropractic care in a way that they will work with the problem at hand to get you out of the pain that you are in, while giving you exercises to build up the weak muscles in the area of your body that is challenged. I just finished a stint of Physical Therapy and it has changed my life! Just 12 weeks ago, I was in so much pain and now, I am on a wonderful exercise program and just want to continue to become stronger!

Don't wait too long. Your family needs you! Best of luck to you.

EDIT: I just read Nicole's advise and she really does give some very good advise. Having been to physical therapists and chiropractors, physical therapy will do a lot of the things chiropractic work can do, except more exercise based. I really can't stress enough to make sure that you do get an MRI of your back before you have ANYONE manipulating it. Someone may tell you that they can help you without testing, however, if your problem has been chronic, it's good to know exactly what you are dealing with; manipulating someone's spine without testing can cause you more trouble down the road. Your family needs you! Good luck!

Dr. Charles Landgrebe if you want effective long term pain relief. He is a chiropractor but also runs a general care practice. Chiropractic is a better alternative because you wont be ignored or just turned over for surgery or pain med. He is caring and kind and will go out of his way to treat and work with you. Children are welcome too, they have toys and welcome the kids to stay with mom if they like-very family friendly. They just take the time to listen to when-why-where-how it hurts and give you treatment options and honesty. If further care is needed they refer out to someone who follows thier principles so you will be taked care of. but i think he could help.
