Need Help on Girl's Names

I will be taking in a newborn baby to foster for at least 6 months. The cps worker said that if I wanted to I could change the baby's name. I should be getting her by the end of this week. I havent seen her at all. Her mother is a distant distant cousin of mine. We are not close by all means. But I do know that her previous child had red hair...I need some suggestions on some girls names that would fit good with a redhead. I like SOME names that arent too popular. Although the names I am coming up with so far are probably popular. We will probably keep her middle name that her mother chose which is Lynne.

Since a few of you are asking about the birth mother. She will absolutely be going up for adoption. The parents arent fit to be parents. They abused their first child and now the child lives with the paternal grandparents in another state away from the parents. Every time this couple has a baby, CPS gets involved. I have been asked to adopt but we financially cannot do that at this time. I already have my own 3 children. The cps worker was the one that told us if we want to call her something else while she is in our care then that is alright. The adoptive parents may keep that name or come up with their own name for her. We should only have her from 3-6months according to the caseworker. Thanks to everyone that has given me suggestions on the names. I hope this clears everything up with all who were asking.

If you are only fostering this child (which I am not minimizing by any means - it's a WONDERFUL thing you're doing), I just don't understand why you'd want to change her name? And I don't understand why you'd be allowed to change her name, being a foster parent, not a bio or adoptive parent? Even if, as a foster parent, you're her legal guardian, I still don't understand why you'd be allowed to change her name...

In any case, best wishes to you. How blessed this little girl is to have someone to love her in her first months of life. Best wishes.

It is a great thing you are doing, taking care of a child.

I have to agree w/ Lee. Unless you plan to go forward and adopt this child, why would you be even considering changing her name? I can't believe they would even allow it.

That said, I like Cheyenne Nicole.

Unless you plan on adopting her, don't change her name. She will eventually move to her adoptive home or back with her birth family, and if she moves back to her birth family, they will obviously want to keep the name they chose and that is legally hers on her birth certificate.

Maybe you'll like the first name the baby comes with, but if she does have red hair, why not Rosa Lynne? "Rosa" is the "red" part. "Sandra" is not too common these days, despite one film star having the name. You might look through lists of popular names of fifty or sixty - even seventy - years ago; they might be unusual enough now. You don't want to do something way off the wall; whatever this baby's future, give her a name she can be happy with as an adult.

It's awesome what you are doing for this sweet baby. However, proceed with caution because if the birth mother will regain custody of her child there may be some hurt feelings if her baby's name has been changed without her consent.

Well, she might have red hair (or not) regardless of whether the father is the same as the prior child. And often hair color changes as they grow.

Amanda Lynne (you can call her Mandy).

There will be enough change in her life as it is. She's 6 months now, but what if she stays with you 6 more months. She will know what name she is being called at 1 yr. Then new mom comes along and changes again. She has been called her name by the only mother God gave her to. Maybe we don't understand why she was given to her and it is certainly best that she be taken away. But I think a mother knows her babys name. The name that baby was given is her name. If you were going to adopt, I would say you had more le-way to change the name and make a new start. Just imagine the day this baby is told she was adopted. Your name was **** but then your foster mom changed to **** and then you were adopted and your name was changed to *****. That;s going to have her reeling. Maybe wait and see what her name is and make a fun nickname out of it.

May I ask what is wrong with her real name? Seems silly to completely change this child's name, especially if you are only gonna have her for 3-6 months...but that's just me.

Kuddos to you for helping out where you can. We are a foster family too and LOVING it. Right now we have 3 and 4 month old baby boys. The 4 month old is definitely going to family, the 3 month old will be up in the air for awhile. We would love to adopt him, but have no idea if that will happen. It will be hard to see him go!

Good luck with choosing a name for this precious baby girl!

Loretta Lynn, just kidding, if this is only temporary why change her name? If the name is that bad call her by a nick name but she has had enough turmoil. Good luck and you are doing a wonderful thing to help out this precious child.
